The Billion Dollar Weather and Climate Disaster dataset is back and now at @climatecentral.org!

Through the first half of 2025, there were 14 separate billion-dollar weather and climate disasters across the United States, costing $101.4 billion. 1/2

Democrats should be drawing up legislation right now, this very minute, to bar Trump from helping himself to $230 million in taxpayer funds from DOJ. Challenge Republicans to hold a vote on it. Push this so hard in the media that every GOP Senate and House candidate is pressed to comment on it.

Black lung is still killing America’s coal miners. Last week, a group of black lung patients made the long journey to Washington D.C. with a simple plea for Trump’s Department of Labor: enforce the silica rule, and stop this plague.

My report for @thenation.com www.thenation.com/article/poli...
Trump Has Handed Coal Miners a “Death Sentence.” But They’re Not Going Without a Fight.
After the government betrayed them by refusing to enforce a crucial workplace health rule, a group of coal miners traveled to DC to put Trump on notice.

Along with the $20 billion U.S. taxpayer bailout to Argentina, the Trump admin announced another $20 billion for Argentina from private banks. But the banks won’t lend the money without a guarantee from the federal government. So it’s a $40B taxpayer bailout.

EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.

I glanced down at the message.

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.

So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.

Wrote about Trump rolling out his IVF “plan” to discount one (1) fertility drug at the same time that his party is refusing to extend Obamacare subsidies. That means any cost savings could be eaten up by increasing monthly premiums—if people can afford health insurance at all. Me in @msnbc.com:
Opinion | Trump's IVF announcement disappoints everyone – even his own supporters
His official plan, laid out Thursday, should be a wake-up call for anyone who still believed he would make IVF free.

I was wondering how deep into this I would have to read before encountering the word "birthrates."

Answer: 16 words.

These folks are always exactly as creepy as you assume.
While I was reporting this NYT profile of defense tech investor & JD Vance ally Katherine Boyle, a State Department official told me: “If you’re looking at her project as a policy project, you’re not really understanding it. Her project is ultimately civilizational.”

everyone: we don’t want kings

rightwing media: this is a confusing protest line, no one is claiming trump is a king

Oftentimes I see people cite Yair Lapid as evidence of a meaningful opposition to Netanyahu. Here is Yair Lapid's vision of peace in his own words last year.

Then, here is what Netanyahu said in 2018.

The court also rebuffed the administration’s argument that judges have no power to review the president’s decisions to federalize the National Guard.

Hilariously, they've arrested fewer people with criminal records than if they'd just picked up random folks off the street. Oh wait, they ARE picking up random folks off the street. Wow, they're terrible at this.
Trump claims ICE’s reign of terror in Chicago is targeting the “worst of the worst.”

But out of the 1,000 undocumented immigrants that have swept up, the agency has only cited 10 men with a criminal background.

Don’t believe his lies for a second.

Trump says migrants drive violent crime in Illinois. But ICE can’t find many violent criminals.
Masked ICE agents and other federal forces showed up in Chicago to go after gangsters. Instead, they keep catching people who are just living their lives.
