Hi. I’m new here. I’m a math tutor who loves math and making art. I weave beads using math and geometry, sew and mend clothes, draw, and paint. I like math art and rainbows. Two of my favorite things to paint are black holes and color wheels.

Stay connected.

“Maybe there was an old trapper that lived out here, and one day he went to check his beaver traps, and maybe he fell into the river and drowned. But his old cabin is still here. So let’s draw an old cabin.”

“Quiet Stream” started with a base of green, and then a wash of blue. Is it a great #painting? I don’t care. I had so much fun painting this one. All of this leafy green put me totally in my happy place.

Here’s my fourth attempt at following a Bob Ross tutorial using #gouache. This #painting made me cold. It also took me four times as long to paint as the others because I had to wash my brush constantly.

Here’s the result of my third attempt at following a Bob Ross tutorial using gouache. This is the first time I’ve tried painting by starting with a base in a dark color, then adding the lights on the dark background.

Here’s my second Bob Ross #landscape in #gouache. I learned how to paint reflections in ponds including that little white edge that goes right at the bank line.

I decided that I need to do more of Bob Ross’ #painting tutorials. I’ve been meaning to start painting again anyway, and I’m sure his instructions will help me loosen up a bit. I figured I’d start at the beginning with season 1, episode 1.

Another tiny landscape in colored pencil. I found it a little surprising how much black and other dark colors I used in this piece. It seems the light becomes more noticeable when it’s surrounded by darkness. #art

Last night, I opened my big box of colored pencils, Faber-Castel Polychromos, to color this little landscape. At just over 2”, it might be bigger on your phone than it is in real life. I’m trying to get myself psyched up to start painting again.

The lemons from my tree are pretty stoked about the recent rain.

A little color therapy always helps. It’s been a while since I played with my seed beads, but I thought I’d thread a needle and make some of my old favorite designs, like these Victory Pod Earrings in purple and gold.

Happy Sunday!

It always makes me happy when my artwork finds a new home, but I’m really going to miss this particular painting. It’s acrylic on canvas.
Very excited to have some original @gwenbeads.bsky.social art hanging in my home!!

Circular dogs are much easier to draw than dog shaped dogs. This painting exists to prove that you don’t have to know how to draw in order to have fun with paint. #painting

For example, the Republicans' effort to stop Revolution Wind project has gotten a minor amount of mainstream and social media attention, but @magaziner.house.gov committee hearing questioning about their arbitrary and capricious attempt to stop it has less than 500 views.

Here are four ways I’ve found to solve an nxnxn cube to embed a trefoil knot. Five layers is the smallest cube I’ve been able to put this knot on. On a 9cube, I’ve found solutions that use 2 colors of thread, 2 faces, and a solution that leaves the reverse side solved as solid colors.

Years ago, right after I started a new job, one of the old-timers dropped by my office and asked me if I had any cookies.

I opened the drawer of my desk and didn’t find any treats.

So I said, “Sorry, no.”

He responded, “That’s fine. The fact that you looked is what’s important. I’ll be back.”

This is a two-sided quilt I sewed while living in San Luis Obispo, a long time ago. The quilt lives in the library at SLMath (MSRI) in Berkeley. Scroll through the comments to see the other side.
One of @gwenbeads.bsky.social's beautiful mathematical quilts hangs in the Austine McDonnell Hearst Library at SLMath (MSRI), where it has been enjoyed by many of our visitors over the years. She has shared more about it here: www.beadinfinitum.com/GwenGallery/....

What a surprise to see a quilt I sewed twenty years ago show up here in my newsfeed.
At #MAAthFest, Beth Malmskog discusses squaring the quilting circle and shows Gwen Fisher’s Quarternion quilt. Read more at: old.nationalcurvebank.org/quilt/quilt....

This #colorwheel was a tiny #painting, in #watercolor on cotton paper. It was a study, and I’m glad I photographed it before because I screwed up after this and ruined it. Fortunately, we have this photo. May your week be filled with tiny successes. Don’t forget to appreciate them.

Someone made this claim, and I’m curious what you all think. “When most artists make art, they have a pretty good idea what their creation will look like long before they finish it.”
Is this true for you?

I call this little piece “Among the Bubbles.” I wish we all had a little firmer ground to stand on. It seems that the people are a bit isolated these days.

Finally got in a little doodling this week with ink and #watercolor. I call this little piece “Floating” because I feel a bit like I’m floating from one day to the next. It seems that the little aliens are having a hard time connecting lately.
