Coming home for the holidays means your mom wants to stream some period drama no one has ever heard of titled some shit like “The Pealing Bells of Melloncollie” and you better believe she’s gonna let you know Olivia Colman is in it

There's some profound differences (so far) between the SA and ICE. The SA had a lot of soldiers and drilled, etc because they fought street battles against leftist paramilitaries and guarded Nazi Party officials. They were organized and dangerous enough to later be eliminated by Hitler
not to belabor the point but any idea that the DHS goons make up a force as casually violent and numerous as the SA/Brownshirts really does have to contend with the fact that they are routinely stymied by a bunch of unarmed community members, even operating in force

Northwestern and Columbia being famous for journalism and bending over for Trump seems a little too on the nose these days
This is the second largest payout from a private university to the Trump admin yet, second only to Columbia’s $200m

In a way, though, they're explicitly pointing out that the cost of business includes extortion, they're just not even implying there's anything wrong with that
How did the @nytimes.com editors let this sentence appear?

"Critics have likened Mr. Trump’s approach to extortion, while others have chalked it up as a cost of doing business with this administration."

Tyger, tyger, burning bright, In the forests of the night. What immortal hand or eye Could frame thy fearful symmetry? Who else remembers reading this aloud in school and marveling at asymmetry? Ah, William Blake. Happy birthday.
