I put down some thoughts about game design, what it’s good for, and what it isn’t good for in this zine!

Plus, a short guide to help get you started making a game if you’ve never done that before: gregisonthego.itch.io/rulebooks-fo...

💯 I’m still leaning how to effectively pass a turn, but I have a blast every time I play it.

Got to teach Inis to the neighborhood dads today while our kids hung out a played legos. Lost to a particularly clever Epic Tales card combo. Dream Sunday.
A medium close-up of game pieces for “Inis” — lavishly illustrated tiles with green, blue, and orange plastic figurines and tan villages (“sanctuaries”) placed on them.

They had this on the batch brew and it was GREAT.
A bag of Little Amps whole-bean coffee labeled “Kerehaklu: Chikmagalur, India. Milk chocolate, lemon, tropical fruit.”

Annoyingly put-together guy getting way too chatty with the busy baristas at the coffeeshop this morning: "Billy Joel is like the perfect music for this morning."
Barista, slammed, in the midst of making tons of drinks, incredibly flat affect: "This is Bob Dylan."

“30 Rock 2025“ is the new “Seinfeld 2000.” I will read a million of these. Everyone please keep writing them.

Jenna would make Liz write jokes for her, Liz would write a bunch of feminist material because she’s mad at Jenna and then try to pull it at the last minute because she’s worried for Jenna’s safety. Jenna would ham it up so hard that the Saudis would love it as parody of shrill American women

Bloc by Bloc: Uprising for a little lunchtime gaming break. We notched an easy win due to a sustained commitment to keeping police morale low. #boardgame
The comments for Bloc by Bloc: Uprising (colored tiles, white wooden vans, and cubes) spread out on a black fabric mat.

Central PA represent! Rosco has been a longtime advocate of game design and designers and it’s so cool seeing that he gets to work with the Diplomacy license. Congrats! 🎉

Excited to share that my first published game design has been officially announced!!

Diplomacy: The Golden Blade card game is a new twist on the classic. Plays 2-7 and ~15 minutes per player but keeps a lot of the backstabbing fun!!

You're close enough to the board game scene that they're already on your list, but just in case: Space Biff and No Pun Included have written/posted/spoken about this topic.

Everyone's already got all the good ones about taking care of your rapidly degrading body and mind but here's one: take more risks. You probably haven't recalibrated how much safer and capable you are now vs when you were 20 and it won't be long till that's eclipsed by fragility, go apeshit a lil

I was told not to teach a class on the intellectual histories of Zionism and Anti-Zionism next year - not because they doubted I could teach it fairly, but because it would attract too many politicians scrutinizing the syllabus.

A society where that is a valid fear is no longer fully democratic.

Just got out of a meeting to organize a day of one-shot TTRPGs at the local library in early November! if you’re local and want to play, hit me up (I’ll be running Galactic 2E).

@goblinprincete.bsky.social and I talked about this with regard to Keep the Faith -- how do we create visual touchstones in a worldbuilding game that can be applied to any setting at all without causing players to subconsciously adopt the depicted setting in their play. It's thorny issue for sure.

I'll be at the semifinals of an informal "best pizza in the Harrisburg area" bracket if you wanna drive west for a few hours.
