'A beaten-up, dilapidated nation that’s a long way from the promised postwar utopia' ★★★★★ THE MAN IN THE WHITE SUIT - Ealing Studios' prescient black comedy, as sharp as ever - and Burnley looks like Berlin, says @grahamrickson.bsky.social - now on @studiocanal.co.uk blu-Ray

And the opening credits are clever too, I remember. Gorgeous film. Get yourself to Baker Street tube and look for the P&P blue plaque marking the site of their London office.

Roger Livesey was on stage in the west end and couldn’t do any location filming, so Powell had to use a double for some shots - the interiors where done in London. You can see its influence on Bill Forsyth’s Local Hero - phone box, remote Scots location, supernatural vibes.

Idiot-proof! The only downside is that when I use a Trip 35 once in a while, I often forget about the focus.

I use this all the time. Unfeasibly sharp images and the light meter still works.

I really like the Sofia Sacco - haven't heard this one

Not been inside the Cutty Sark since the revamp. Walking through the foot tunnel to the Isle of Dogs terrified me as a child - I was convinced that the white tiles would give way and I'd drown. I love walking around the Naval College buildings now.

No - I grew up just across Greenwich Park. My home turf, despite having been in Leeds for decades.

We barely have time to teach the standard curriculum. No energy or space in the day left to 'poison kids'. What a bizarre turn of phrase.

We had this book. The matchbox paddle boat never worked. I still remember the disappointment.

Nothing screams '60s and 70s low budget sci-fi' quite like that font. It's called Data 70 or Westminster

Bought this second hand as I couldn’t resist the Supraphon sleeve art. Magnificent stuff. #supraphon #dvorak #karelancerl #czechphilharmonic

As with Handel’s Messiah, I have never heard Gerontius. Any good?

Many years ago I was hired to provide music for a BBC radio play which starred Patricia Routledge. My composing/improvising career floundered soon after, but working alongside Routledge was fun.

I had a blow on one of these once - Selmer double with ascending third valve. Very confusing.

And French composers used to treat the horn as another woodwind instrument
