You might think controlling GB News gives you huge influence over UK politics – especially on the right. But that's just the tip of the iceberg, as we reveal in this week's issue of @thenewworldmag.bsky.social

What Carter-Ruck did was different: they actively helped criminals keep their fraud going.

This isn't like a criminal defence lawyer defending a bank robber in court. It's like a lawyer threatening witnesses with defamation claims if they report that a robbery is happening

NEW: Britain’s top libel firm, Carter-Ruck, acted for OneCoin - a $4bn crypto-fraud.

The firm threatened whistleblowers, journalists, regulators, and even the police.

Carter-Ruck's work helped the fraud continue as long as it did.

Was that a crime?

This is the kind of thing that makes deepening relations with the EU more difficult for any govt: unease among MS that previous commitments aren't going to be upheld

Farage's proposals to deport up to 430k people previously granted ILR +told this was their permanent home was heavily criticised. (He exempts EU nationals with settled status, maybe due to legal protection under Treaty + risk to UK citizens. Lam's preference is to ignore that & try a harder line)

Take back control they said…

“The UK’s borders chief was unable to answer when asked by MPs to name any way in which Brexit has helped “control our borders”.

Martin Hewitt, the new border security commander, said he did “not immediately” have an answer to the question.”

Well this is a proper head scratcher.
But yeah, fiddling around with tax and getting rid of consumer protections should sort it.
Wonder what those ‘former chancellors and prime ministers’ had to say about this shitshow. Any mention of Brexit at all??

Nigel Farage now says that any suggestion he's been soft on Putin is "just nonsense".

Here's a quick reminder of what he's said in the past

Breaking: Starting next year, Californians with diabetes will be able to purchase state-branded insulin at steeply reduced prices, Gov. Newsom announced today. Long-acting insulin pens will be available at pharmacies for $11 per pen beginning Jan. 1. https://cal.news/3W7SDZW

Gov. Newsom has announced California will be the first state to sell insulin through a state-backed program.

It will cost just $11.

Newsom: This president appears unhinged… seems listless… he seems, dare I say, in decline—cognitively, and… physically. These are just the rantings of someone who needs an intervention, needs some help, needs to be stabilized.

There is no need for a moral panic about the UK's welfare system.

Far from perfect but recent discourse is nuts

Spending is controlled, not spiralling

Worklessness is near record lows

Lyse Doucet and Jeremy Bowen fine reporting from Middle East reminder of BBC journalism as it used to be…deeply informed, sober and balanced …sad to say marks out shallow sensationalism of BBC’s reporting of Westminster politics ….
