Young Son Playing

My arm, a single quivering spider’s leg suspending him:
willingly-webbed, plump fly hung over our bed’s Alpine ledge,
carpet redefined active volcano, just inches below a banked deluge of duvet-snow;
his challenge to grip despite the fraying line of slippery giggles…
Played Ghosts too, that jamboree of anarchy: pitch black tag, absent all light and adult sense,
till my eye socket briefly planted his thumb as bemused flowerless stalk;
my cracked sight-pot requiring the horticultural care of A&E, where I bloomed unseasonal red.
Simpler games: (not) netting skittish leaves, which fled gilt-edged out of shaken Octobers.
His childhood pulled up now: a short month of sparkling, fluttering, but barely catchable days.
