My desire to minimize my use of Google services has finally been outweighed by my desire to reduce my technical debt. So moving the #Mariners 40 man payroll back to Google Sheets so I can decom some self hosted things I no longer need.

The mvp announcement is tonight. I just want to remind everyone that no matter what happens, Cal Raleigh had an historic season (changed the way baseball values huge asses)

Today is going to be a Discourse day, so I'll just say this.

If I had a vote, I'd vote for Judge for MVP without thinking twice. Or in reality, I'd decline to vote at all because individual player awards are stupid things that in no way validate or invalidate what actually happened on the field.

MVP:

I'd vote Judge. Big hitting edge. Another (!) historic year.

--but also--

A 60-HR catcher is obv insanely valuable. There's never *been* one.

--and so--

I think Raleigh wins, due to 60HR-C, and b/c of Judge fatigue

--but mostly--

they're both great, no wrong answer.

MLB continues to do a really solid job of navigating the gambling landscape, which is very weird.
Direct response to the Emmanuel Clase and Luis L. Ortiz allegations from MLB.

Doesn’t totally close off these individual actor lanes but certainly makes them less lucrative.
Following this weekend’s indictments of Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz, MLB has announced that, in collaboration with major sports books, single pitch wagers are being capped at $200 and excluded from all parlays:

Breaking news per Jeff Passan: “Cleveland Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz have been indicted by prosecutors in Brooklyn on a host of charges related to a scheme to rig bets on pitches thrown in MLB games. Ortiz was arrested in Boston earlier today. Clase is not currently in custody”

Going position by position here just so I can reference this later. My extremely back of napkin projections as of right now:

C-6 WAR
1B-1
2B-2
SS-2.5
3B-1
LF-2.5
CF-6
RF-1
DH-2
SP-3.5
SP-3.5
SP-3
SP-2
SP-1
RP-3
Total=40 WAR
Replacement=48 WAR
Total Wins=88
The reigning AL West Division Champion Mariners are probably about an 88 win team as the roster stands right now, with holes at 1B/3B/RF/RP/SP, probably in that order of importance.

Going to guess they need between 3-7 wins added to successfully defend their title. It's doable.
