A deep interest in the pre-Windows home computer revolution, specifically the 8-bit, Commodore, and Amiga scene that defined that period of immense technological change for the home computer user.

Pulled a couple old SCSI drives from a Commodore Amiga 3000 .. both of them are more than 30 years old (go Seagate!).

Instead, I installed ZuluSCSI. I've used them before in a Mac Classic .. and they just work. And FAST!

3D printed a basic tray found on Thingverse and bada-boom bada-bing!

The BBC Micro is 44 years old today, Happy Birthday! However, many customers had to wait until early 1982 for delivery of theirs due to limited supply availability before Christmas. During its lifespan just over 1.5 million were sold - exact figures are not known. I still have my original one.

I built a Python-powered toolchain that allows the AI to write, inject, and hot-reload 6510 Assembly directly into the VICE emulator.

It’s 2025 AI engineering applied to 1982 hardware constraints.

A nicely restored ... revived Amiga 500.

An original unmodified Amiga 500 from way back in 1986/87. Kickstart 1.2, no cut traces, only 512KB for Fat Agnus .. the additional RAM is Slooooowwww RAM.

I don't know what I'll do with it but it works!

Saving an Amiga 500, they had a RAM expansion board with a real time clock ... with a 35+ year old battery. 😱

De-soldered, cleaned, repaired and replaced! The new battery keeps time and settings but can't be charged by the system. It should last and is easy to remove if ever needed.

Fool the grannies, play games all day!
If you could do it all over again, would you want to be educated by computer and with occasional check-ins from a neighborhood gran? This, console anniversaries, a tribute to a departed industry legend, and more on This Week in Retro coming Saturday!

Even old Amiga keyboards can come under the influence of old leaky capacitors.

One capacitor leaked so bad, that it corroded one of its own legs & its pad .. and also a trace close by which caused the keyboard to constantly & only output:

Learning 6502 programming is still a valid way to hone your low-level coding skills. The 6502 is perhaps one of the earliest RISC CPUs, so you could trace the path from it to the Arm CPUs in just about everything today.
