Ok, so I accidentally set the display to 640x480, now I've upped it to 800x600 and 24-bit colour, looking really nice.

Currently looking at Video options, the board I'm using is PCI, I may swap it for an AGP one to test out 1600x1200 (Riva TNT2 will do it)

Well it worked and damn it's fast! The thing I did wrong was to use an 800x600 4:3 monitor. 😀

Well it all installed ok, but then I got this error when booting, it's because of the dodgy Netgear I decided to use. I'm trying again with a dual Intel Pro 100 card, pretty much supported on every OS in the history of the world 😀

We shall see, interesting to compare a 32bit Pentium III 800Mhz Vs 64bit UltraSPARC 143mhz!

Looking good so far, I found a compatible video card: S3 Trio64V2/DX

Tonight I'm attempting to get Sun Solaris 8 x86 installed on a Pentium III, I'm wondering if I can remote session to my Sun Ultra 1, or vice/ versa for a speed boost. 🤔

Today 400 million functional PCs have been pushed towards early obsolescence, let's take a minute to appreciate how much eWaste that will generate.
I get many people will use alternative OS's, but all those businesses out there won't. Quite shocking really isn't it! 😔

@pobx.bsky.social I've got that HP Microserver permanently setup as a 5TB retroNAS now, thanks so much again mate! 👍

So I rsync backup 2TB of my retro software, thousands of floppy images, OS's, boot disks, misc files, games collection. I've just checked my server and I've lost 1.25TB in the backup. So glad I have a local backup, but wow I need to get a new back soon 😳

I saw this and thought the same: It's SCSI!? When I set mine up in my Sun SPARCstation I couldn't find anything about people using a BlueSCSI in Sun systems, they just work on anything, because it's SCSI. 😀

I've only got an 8-bit framebuffer in this at the moment unfortunately, an upgrade for the future, for sure.

Are you a 5:4 or 4:3 kind of retro person? 🤔

The Sun Ultra 1 looks so good on the Sony FD Trinitron screen 😍🤩

I'm having a good tidy up in my workshop tonight and sorting my KVM system out, hopefully I should end up with a bit more working space.
A collection of vintage computer equipment, including several beige Sun Microsystems workstations and Apple Macintosh desktops stacked on shelves. A large CRT monitor is on top, with a smaller Sony Trinitron CRT below. An HP tower PC sits to the left beneath the older machines.

It depends on the computer, some by pressing the button slower it down, others were on by default and the machine ran at normal speed, if you switched it off it slowed down.
