Instead, I installed ZuluSCSI. I've used them before in a Mac Classic .. and they just work. And FAST!
3D printed a basic tray found on Thingverse and bada-boom bada-bing!

An original unmodified Amiga 500 from way back in 1986/87. Kickstart 1.2, no cut traces, only 512KB for Fat Agnus .. the additional RAM is Slooooowwww RAM.
I don't know what I'll do with it but it works!

De-soldered, cleaned, repaired and replaced! The new battery keeps time and settings but can't be charged by the system. It should last and is easy to remove if ever needed.

One capacitor leaked so bad, that it corroded one of its own legs & its pad .. and also a trace close by which caused the keyboard to constantly & only output:

The November issue of Compute!'s Gazette .. well I just subscribed, so I'm just getting mine. Nice to have a computer rag in the house again!
This issue reminds me of another, so long ago. The cover of Byte. Mom looks soooo mad!

For the first time today, after 27 years and some repair work, I booted up a real physical Amiga for the very first time.

If you have any of these old computers with a battery .. open them up and check them out. This had electrolyte damage on RAM, sockets, caps, resistors .. and of course the battery itself.

I subscribed to "Amiga World" but would often grab others off the newsstand or from the local computer store.

It's a battery holder. This is stupid.

After placing/replacing 22 sockets:
U3,U4,U5,U10,U22 and either U16 or U28 ...I don't know which chip I had in which spot, they're both identical 4066s
Every single one of those bad chips caused a black screen when tested by itself.

In the middle of the print, I ran out of black, which made for a nice print. 😁

I will say that it is the only chip on the 43 year old board with black crusty legs.

Not just for the Commodore, there are articles on Tandy and Atari along with old rag style articles and examples in BASIC and 6502 Assembly
I'm impressed!
