.. and here’s where my aging memory plays up

Went to prep #40. Clean forgot the “time travel serial” (that foreshadows a certain Star Trek episode) which expected next..

Interrupted by the Frank Hampson four parter.

The mystery deepens..

We don’t get to see this new engine installed until #44..
The third Thunderbirds 50th anniversary episode, completed in 2016, has dropped on #ITVretro

“The Stately Homes Robberies”

Based on the Century 21 mini album (MA100) of the same name.

Director: David Elliott.

Guest puppeteer: Mary Turner.

From the original series.

Plenty of Fuller’s earth liberally applied in that shot and probably other, more noxious, stuff

I’m choking just thinking about it

That B-type TB2 is looking very, very grubby. I’m all for dirtying down for realism..

Anyone would think these episodes airing out of production order though..
Even I noticed and I was tiny!

Didn’t fool anyone

I do remember children at school of mind that despite seeing a door at the back the vehicle was still deployed from the front!
They were indeed

Due to the success C5 secured rights to rest of the series ..

There’s the downer

Episodes already issued weren’t rereleased, unedited

The compilations regularly reissued with new covers

So had to tolerate eg.. Terror in NY & Atlantic Inferno lumped together

Until the DVDs
I agree there could have been an issue with a front cover - perhaps not reproducing correctly

It’s possible what we have a paste up of two. As 40 would of been completed - but no time with 39 at press for a wholly new cover
Well.. there’s another thing ..

The Stingray looks like conceivably pasted in to replace something ..

Interesting conjecture anyway
Sadly these were long after my introduction.. 🤦‍♀️

But for that you do get a bonus clip. Backdoor action with TB2!

It’s just a pity they didn’t have a large scale rear section - so had to use the front (cropped)

The end with a yellow stripe..

Tomorrow’s news, today

TV Century 21 thread 🧵

Issue 39

On sale 13th October 1965

Front page faithfully transcribed in alt text.

THIS WEEK:

Confusing young readers, who may now feel anxious missed an issue..

The lead story has nothing to do with this week’s edition!
REVOLUTIONARY ENGINE FOR XL5

SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF VELOT 4

THE World Space Patrol broke the news this morning that a revolutionary new booster engine will be fitted to Fireball XL5 on its return from Uraniture.

The heliotomic engine, designed and built by Dr. Velot at the Venus Weapons Research Establishment, produces sufficient thrust to lift half of London twenty feet off the ground.

With such tremendous power under harness, Fireball is expected to reach Velot 4, four times the speed of light..

TEMPEST TAKES DVER

WITH the suspension of Commander Shore by
the World Security Patrol,
Captain Troy Tempest has assumed command of Marineville.

Commander Shore's suspension follows Marshal Ketov's charge of negligence in Shore's handling of the B.1 Bathescaphe attack.
A full W.A.S.P. investigation is to be held into the charges, and mean-while, Captain Tempest is in full
charge of the Marineville
establishment.

(Full report on pages 10 and 11)
TV21 would foreshadow in future on it’s front covers

Such as promoting Scarlet in advance of airing and appearing in the weekly

However this was well managed and readers left in no doubt as to what being communicated to them

🤷‍♀️
Remember the TV21 International Extra was at publishers the same time..

A chaotic period.

So they brought forward the #40 cover - and commissioned a new one ?
An aside

I have a madcap totally unsupported theory on this.

At the time Alan Fennell was stretched in many different directions ..

What if.. having given the still inexperienced young Tod Sullivan greater responsibility for a period

Tod omitted to commission a cover for #39?
👍🏼

Though I did say the stop press ties into the front 😊

The point making is that prior to this the weekly had never jumped ahead in this manner.

Do you still have your code book?..
Until next week..

I first saw this episode on the 29th October..

No, I’m not telling you the year 🤦‍♀️
The Black Dalek

Rust in Peace ..

A confusing stop press relating back to that front cover.. 🤔
