‘The scientists have spoken that the EU can and must deliver a 90-95% domestic emissions cut by 2040 - without loopholes or international offsets. Undermining the target with so-called ‘flexibilities’ would jeopardise fairness, delay innovation and increase long-term costs. The European Commission, Member States and the European Parliament must trust the science, act early and adopt 2035 and 2040 targets that are aligned with climate reality’.
