Do boilers bore you and heat pumps have you yawning? That's about to change!

The NEW heating transition colouring book makes the heating transition tangible and engaging.

So, register then pick up a pen and join us for the Brussels launch on 22 October.

With rising temperatures, cooling is becoming an essential service to all EU citizens.

A scramble to install conventional air conditioning would place stress on the electricity grid, increase bills & make our cities hotter.

Europe must reduce its reliance on Russian gas, but paying a $750 billion import bill is not the way. Decarbonising heating and cooling would mean getting rid of almost half the gas we import from Russia – and replacing it with cheap, European energy.

New report out: most NECPs are not ambitious enough on decarbonising heating & cooling.

A few EU member states, however, are leading the way: Austria, Denmark, Finland, and Lithuania.

Europe is the fastest-warming continent. As we continue to experience record-breaking temperatures, are our homes and cities ready for the heat?

🌍 Brussels turned up the heat—but we kept our cool.

On 24 June, voices from across the sector came to our day of action on sustainable cooling. The message was clear:

➡️ We need passive cooling, natural refrigerants, 🍃 building design & clean district networks.

As people struggle to heat their homes during the winter, many others struggle to keep them cool during the summer☀️

Making our homes climate-resilient through insulating them and installing sustainable, renewable cooling technologies can help protect millions of people from extreme temperatures🛡️

🌞Support clean solutions: solar thermal, geothermal

The future of Europe’s energy security begins at home, with cleaner, fairer heating & cooling for all.
Centre this roadmap around energy demand reduction by decarbonising heating and cooling and replacing fossil fuels with clean home-grown renewable energy sources.

But what policies will get us there? Our suggestions: 👉
Imports are still imports. Whether they come from Russia, the US, Qatar or Azerbaijan, they create volatility, inequality and risk. So what can the EU do?

Choose energy independence through electrified heat, local renewables, and climate-resilient buildings.
Replacing polluting fuels with clean heating and cooling makes the EU safer. 30 million additional heat pumps could replace about half of the gas imported from Russia in 2022.

As Commissioner Jørgensen put it, "Less energy from Russia, more power for Europe.”
The heating sector is central to gas use. Heating & cooling together represent about ½ of EU’s energy demand, with over 70% coming from fossil fuels. Have a look at our infographic for more 👇
But if this roadmap leads to swapping Russian imports for gas from elsewhere, we’ve missed the point. Here's our run-through of what the roadmap contains:

✅ energy efficiency & renewables to replace gas
❌ no actions towards that goal
❌ no mention of consumption reduction
❌ no mention of heating
Last year, the EU still imported 75bcm of gas. A roadmap to end EU imports of Russian fossil fuels is a very welcome step, and represents a clear political signal:

No country should be able to weaponise energy, blackmail EU Member States, or have its war machine financed by EU consumers.
Today, the EU Commission unveiled the long-awaited roadmap to end EU imports of Russian fossil fuels: a necessary step for peace, energy security and climate targets. Here's why it matters and our reaction 👇🧵

They say you need to internalise the concepts behind the decarbonisation of heating & cooling.
I am taking immediate action, thanks to the cupcakes of the @coolheatingco.bsky.social

If only internalising the concepts of decarbonised heating and cooling was as easy as consuming a cupcake...! But we're very happy they made an impact 🧁 😇
A smart clean heat transition means using all the heat sources at your city's disposal, including wastewater heat.
