also there are games where the dice or equivalent mechanics are EXTREMELY interesting!! game mechanics are their own art form and I love to see how people play with them to create something unexpected.

I think it's SO valid to lean more narrative than mechanics! but imo there's no one "right" way

that's a pretty sweeping claim, and not one that I find myself fully aligned with, tbh! I've always said that if I just wanted to tell a story with my friends, we wouldn't need a TTRPG ruleset at all; that structure is there to make it a game instead of just a story. but like all things, it varies!
