Reposting so I can pin this. Below is part of a thread I wrote including my Watsonian redefinition of the term “Star Destroyer”
giledpallaeon.bsky.social
Previous type entries have made note of the appropriate deployment of a particular type, with special regard to campaign operations. Star Destroyer as defined here overrides those generalized parameters. It is the assessment of [Redacted] to append the designation “Star Destroyer”…

Tired: the cia is an agent of covert regime change abroad and that’s bad

Wired: the cia is an agent of covert regime change abroad and that’s not only good but essential to democracy

we have to be willing to just fuck with foreign governments in order to promote pro-democracy forces and harm pro-authoritarian forces in those countries

*that's* our actual interest, not whatever faff natsec heads preach about "the rules based order"

Before someone jumps on me, I had to leave the theatrical showing I was at because daycare called and my partner couldn’t be there.

I’m about halfway through. The joys of parenting a toddler. But so far it’s well made and well acted and well-formed nonsense.

Given the gross inaccuracies in the film, I’m really struggling with this recommendation. Nuclear war is bad; so are ill-informed public’s that will choose and pressure leaders into bad choices and worse outcomes based on poor education.

I was able to see an early screening of "A House of Dynamite." Americans need to see this movie and remember why nuclear attack is vastly more terrifying than any other threat to our existence.

Is reminding you that the Battle of Moscow was ongoing when we joined the war enough for you or do I need to attach a map of where that is too?

I’m pretty sure where I’m coming from I’m returning to the light side (comparatively)

I’m holding onto hope, but uhh… it may be for lack of alternatives.

I’m glad it’s well-made enough people who don’t understand the subject matter will miss why it’s completely horseshit.

Wait…

A single nuclear warhead, of unknown origin, is heading toward the U.S. mainland in Kathryn Bigelow's new Netflix film. It's an unnerving scenario — but it's also thrilling to watch. n.pr/48przga

And while I’m sub-posting someone on another SM site, I will also say those who know often can’t say, so don’t assume those who speak know jack from shit.
giledpallaeon.bsky.social
I’m getting tired of saying this, so I’m going to say it one more time, *slowly*.

If in a INDOPACOM fight swarming UAS are the greatest threat to the US Navy, we have already won the war.

If we are close enough to the target that kill chain can be closed, we’ve already won.

Sometimes it really seems like war is God’s way of making Americans look at a map. Unfortunately He struck out on all other times.
giledpallaeon.bsky.social
And we’ll have SSN(X) (probably) and they’ll be on the Type 109 or some shit and we’ll deal with it then

We’ve been over this repeatedly. No. It’s a bad idea. We can’t base close safely, so you’re basically *starting* with the differences on this map. And some IPC transits will be longer.

Oregon National Guard Adjutant General, General Gronewold says if they are federalized, that he will advise the Title 10 commander to utilize National Guard Troops to PROTECT protesters at ICE facilities. This is the right answer.

Naval History folks, anyone know of good books on the naval war in the War of 1812, preferably featuring the shenanigans on the Great Lakes?

As basically the one surviving civilian in my organization that is any meaningful way a war gamer, no it isn’t, and it’s a shame.

Also most professional (as in by and for DoD) games aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. Exceptions prove rules and all that though.

I am steadfastly opposed to giving them the Tomahawk

Imagine being in charge of nuclear weapons, in charge of developing the weapons systems of the future, of battleships and tanks and bombers and fighter jets and you spend your time mad about whether people are shaving.
