Our respect means more though. Reactionaries know this. The admiration of millions of MAGA grandparents has not helped JD Vance with his self esteem issues. He'd much rather get recognition from Jamelle Bouie. Red tribe has no cultural capital and they know it. 2024 hasn't changed this one bit.
for me a key realization is that "we want to be respected" is not some weird drive that only reactionaries have. we've all got it. we all like winning. you have to look into your heart and see the potential for darkness there if you want to really understand the right.
I guess this is a result of modernity irrevocably altering the subjectivities of everyone, including reactionaries. I highly doubt actual vikings cared on any level. Sorry chud, you are a feminist deep down.

“Damn it I just wanted Tropic Thunder 2”
The people who own the New York times would like it to be 1995-2005 again. The people they try and make partners in doing this want it be 1925 again.
The elite class has been itching for a right wing vibe shift to put black people, trans people, etc back in its place. The right wing we have doesn’t have the finesse to pull it off. Their behavior guarantees thermostatic backlash

the legislative history is utterly forgotten. We got the aca because of a republican senator switching parties and an unexpected death that gave dems an extremely narrow super majority for liek 60 days in session. It passed on New Year’s Eve quite literally the very last moment it could have passed
If we had been able to pass something better, that would have been better

I was there, Gandalf! We tried!

If we had been able to pass nothing, that would have been much, MUCH worse
This is just describing facts? Every new Dem president post civil rights has been a crisis president after years of GOP malpractice. Economy normalish or there only a mild malaise? Then the GOP will keep the White House in 2028 easily.

Yeah it’s sad and has unsavory implications. Thats life.
It’s pretty clear from the past 30yrs that economic recovery creates Republican voters. If they don’t feel personally threatened they’ll vote for the “horribly mismanaged country, but will own Dylan Mulvaney” party.

A depression is the only thing that creates a lib majority that’s at all durable
A “I will try out any ideology that isn’t liberal 🤢” type of contrarianism + misogyny inevitably turned a guy into a committed Republican?
I grew up in the Obama years and surrounded by evangelicals. I had to sit through this guy’s weepy bullshit about the founding fathers and so many sermons about the antichrist.

Then they started worshipping a dipshit Charles I who fits the anti christ bill better than anyone alive
Negative polarization is as strong as the cause of the polarization. That polarization is built on anti-blackness, misogyny, and status anxiety. Those are the most powerful forces in the universe.

They’ve done all of this and the approval is still above 40 despite terrible economic sentiment
What if they are one in the same? We are well on our way to Orbanification. He’s doing it publicly and stunting on us. And yet we’re praying for an economic collapse to finally make his approval below 40% and the generic ballot more than D+2.8
His economic/inflation approval is -30 and he’s only 9 points underwater. We need literal breadlines SOON to fix this
I remember thinking that during the Bush years. We’ll feel foolish for thinking this when we’re in what can be called a QAnon theocracy with AI surveillance state characteristics
The generic ballot is barely D+3 right now
For me? I don’t think there’s any action to take. I’ll help those in my life. I’ll vote out of forlorn hope and obligation. But modernity and the era of social progress are coming to a close that will be equal parts horrifying and absurd. I’m trying to make my peace with that
It is better but it’s still effectively a lockout. I don’t think we’re getting an actual trifecta again unless there are literal breadlines under a Republican president
they still effectively are locked out for a generation. We’ve only had 1 honest to god trifecta this century (50 seat senate with Manchin as 50 is not really a trifecta).

We’re nearly maxed on swing state seats and Fetterman will probably flip eventually.
If Kamala didn’t step into the breach Dems would probably be locked out of the Senate for nearly a generation. I’m even willing to give party leadership and Biden most of the blame for Gaza because they were basically forcing her to refuse to break with Biden on anything.
D+3 when we’re committing constitutional, hegemonic, and economic (even if in slow motion) suicide is more dire than any news I’ve read in my entire life.

I don’t know what short of breadlines could give the Dems the senate by 2028
Smarter doomers know the real issues are that the generic ballot is D+3 *despite EVERYTHING* and the Senate.
No. They find the prospect of a PoC or trans intern in the office correcting something they said to be far more harrowing than concentration camps all along the border.
In truth, these “woke” changes, like the groyperification of the GOP, is a middle-out phenomenon of anything

Huh? Biden’s 2020 campaign was somber nationalism about bringing the country together. Kamala contorted herself so much to win Republican support it’s a miracle she can walk
Isn’t that beside the point? I’m more worried about him instilling Caesarian loyalty in the ranks
It’s a shame that pretty much no one without a college degree cares at all
