October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and it's important that we talk about it... especially considering how prevalent it is in our society. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men in the US experience intimate partner violence in their lifetime.

If you think you don't know anyone who's been personally impacted by domestic violence, you're likely mistaken ( if you've met me, then you do.)

One of the many things that perpetuates the cycle is silence. Survivors are often hesitant to come forward. Many women blame themselves for the abuse, and many men stay silent out of shame or fear of judgement.

This year, domestic violence has been a pretty common topic of discussion as more public figures, such as Cassie, Keke Palmer, Hailey Bailey, and Sha'Carri Richardson and their experiences have been thrust into the public eye. Unfortunately, many of these discussions include comments and jokes like "That could never be me" or "Why didn't they just leave?"

While I truly hope that none of you ever have to endure that kind of trauma, please remember: you probably know someone who has, or who currently is, living through it. They see and hear your dismissive remarks, and whether you realize it or not, that kind of talk contributes to keeping the cycle of violence alive.

Let's choose compassion over judgement. Listen, support and lead with empathy.. You never know who may need it

Most music I listen to (outside of metal), I'm always thinking about how smooth it would be to just skate a city to that song, like an hour repeat.

Life happened and I don't have the time as of late, but the itch is ALWAYS there, and it WILL be scratched when time and opportunity permits. ^_^
