Scientist, author, artist, madman. He/Him. Creator of the comic 'Genocide Man', which is a celebration of life, believe it or not. Day job is a calibration physicist for the USGS Landsat program. But here I'm mostly about art, writing, and politics.

Even more importantly, young people are *depressed* about the state of the world today. Depressed people buy themselves little pick-me-ups.

If anything, it's alarming that they're only buying pastry. That tells me they're so broke they can't afford clothing, cars, or puppies.
Sounds like a perfectly normal moose to me.

I'm honor of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand:

Errata is never published.

Animate taking off jacket
People of a certain inclination think of them as just about groin height. 🙂
Thanks, I'll go research those now.
I'm just curious - can you name a point in the history of any country when an authoritarian tyrant was chased out by non-violent means?
'Single leg stand-up from a sitting position' was one of the most important physical therapy exercises I was assigned after my bout with COVID (which was far less serious than yours). It's great for improving balance and strength in muscles that I don't use while sitting at my desk.
Yeah, it's crazy that my graphic novel ended up being almost 500 pages. I don't think I *could* do that again if I tried. The energy of youth, I suppose.
Gruff Farmer: We've all done that, none of us are being dicks about it. Fuck off.

Guy: Well. Guess I've gotta become the villain, then.
I mean, he is old as dirt. As wonderful as this world is with Mel Brooks, ya got to resign yourself that someday soon we will need to go on without him.
The silver surfer graphics, at least, were excellent. They had her surf through a nebula and it looked awesome.
Democrats don't know how to run a political campaign, Republicans don't know how to run a country. Dems don't do politics; Repubs don't do governance. This has been true for just about forever.
That's a marketing problem. Big studios don't know how to market sci-fi except as action/thriller or horror.
Hades 2, Silksong, and Borderlands 4, all within two weeks of each other.

People, look out for the gamers in your life. They'll need extra free time, lots of snacks, and reminders to stretch every now and then.
In one Dwarf Fortress game I had a dwarf give birth while fighting a goblin raid. She used her infant son as a shield, mentally snapped when he died, and then turned her newborn's bones into a legendary dining chair -- that caused more goblin raids. That shit is just Tuesday in DF.
I've just been cocooning in games lately, and I made a mistake with Rimworld. It's a fine game, but if you've played Dwarf Fortress then Rimworld is deeply boring. Yes, lots of things can happen but you'll never see anything like that insanity of a dwarf fortress spiral.
No, you fool! The more emails you send out, the more you get back! 😁
Right. Time to homebrew a 'Slaveowner Slayer' longsword...
The collected works of John Varley, but especially the Gaean trilogy.

And now that I'm thinking of it, the Galactic Millieu series by Julian May. That would actually really rock as an HBO series.
Quote this with a book you read way too young that explains why you are the way you are.

Hahahaha! I think I was eleven when I read this. Soft porn -- and *weird* porn -- definitely had an effect on this young boy's development.
I can't speak to using generative AI in academia. I can speak to using it in industry, specifically satellite image recognition. Our evaluation is that the current best AI models still have ~10% error rate. That is far, far more than we can accept (our normal errors are <1%), so we do not use AI.
Yeah, I was trying to get less abstract in our conversation, not more. I don't follow you.

I'm going to keep fighting for everyone, and if we disagree then let's agree to do that.
I think we're speaking across one another, here.

You were talking about taking multiple steps to rights for trans kids. I posted that, we need to fight for everyone including trans kids, all at once. You wanna take it in steps; I refuse any steps backwards for anyone.

Are we disagreeing?
Scans better with, "... And Trump's ass I kiss."
