“We also spend too much time worrying about the last 10% of decarbonisation instead of doing the first 80–90%, which we already know how to deliver so that the energy itself and the energy services will become cheaper.”

This should be tattooed on every govt and industry leader.

How to rapidly scale the heat pump market?

“The main hurdle is the price ratio of gas to electricity. [Reforming taxation of energy] would unlock a much more market-driven transition.”

That’s what I told the FT. Excellent piece.

@delong.social open.substack.com/pub/braddelo... The classical dilemna: what can get quantified gets measured - and acted upon. What really counts is difficult to measure - has no good indicators nor milestones, and is eventually neglected.

The facility has a capacity of 300MW/600MWh.

Much larger batteries are under development: A huge 1 GW / 4 GWh system is being constructed in Jänschwalde, Germany.

Our expert survey: not very.

⚙️ Policy priority electrification: 2.3 / 5
⚙️ Policy priority heat pumps: 1.7 / 5
⚙️ Regulatory support: 1.3 / 5

One of the key barriers to electrification is the ratio of electricity to gas prices.

The tax rate on electricity used in industry is much higher in most European countries than the tax rate on fossil gas.

Not a bad first experience - perhaps that it what got me addicted.
