For the last six years, startmenu has gone back and forth between making a loss and just breaking even. I make no money on Rewinder. My guest spots on GB have been pro bono. I've slept on a friend's couch for every event I have covered (bar SGF when Tencent spent too much money flying people out) for the last 4 years. I have only been able to stay in games media because I am on disability and live at home to help support my parents. However, now that I am done with college, and have spent the most part of this year trying to secure more consistent paid work, I need to make this make sense in the long run. I have been offered an opportunity going in 2026, which will require me to have access to a reasonably powered PC, so any help in making that happen would be much appreciated. I deeply hate asking for help, but I really want to be able to continue working in this space and continue to foster the next generation of games criticism while making games media a sustainable and realistic line of employment for the next generation. So even if it's just a buck or two, it would really help out.

The comment indicates that they think the hottest mess of 2025 is Roblox in light of the game's CEO's recent interview with the New York Times. Transcript of the comment: Late dishonorable mention goes to Black Ops 7 using ugly AI art in place of real art for gamertag IDs. I'm sure there might be some more messes that will come out, even though 2025 is almost over. My Picks: 1. Roblox. Yes, the other messes more so have to do with business practices and failures, but Roblox is worse, because they knowingly let predators use their platform and create games to prey upon children. On top of this, they went out of their way the last couple of years banning and even suing content creators who were pointing this out and trying to stop it. It wasn't until this went viral and mainstream news began covering it that the people behind Roblox even acknowledge that it was even a problem. Even politicians began calling them out. That is a huge mess.

You can read all of these details in the IGN article, but be warned that it's severely depressing. The Alters - The developer failed to disclose the use of generative AI for images and text, then lied (allegedly) about the genAI items being placeholders. People seem to have mostly forgotten this one, but I didn't want to delete entries. Amazon - Sunset New World immediately after a well-received expansion was released, in accordance with massive layoffs throughout the company. You'll never believe what that money is being reallocated to. Apple - The tech giant was found in contempt of court after failing to implement orders from the Epic vs. Apple case from several years back. They blocked or slow-rolled the addition of Fortnite back into iOS, and it's unclear how large a hit the ruling will end up being to Apple's profit margins.
