I wanted dinner recommendations so I scraped 13,000+ London restaurants and accidentally discovered Google Maps is running a shadow economy. Anyway here's a dashboard and a political economy thesis: open.substack.com/pub/laurenle...
How Google Maps quietly allocates survival across London’s restaurants - and how I built a dashboard to see through it
I wanted a dinner recommendation and got a research agenda instead. Using 13000+ restaurants, I rebuild its ratings with machine learning and map how algorithmic visibility actually distributes power.

Further evidence that widespread covid vaccination is better for everybody.
A study on 1.7 million people in Hong Kong shows superior hybrid immunity to Covid in people who got vaccinated before infection vs. people who got infected first. "Our findings are a direct rebuttal to arguments for natural immunity," the authors write. doi.org/10.1016/j.va...

The answer is all of it.
The GDPR, the EU's first privacy reg, was enforced on a country-by-country basis, and predictably failed (it became a race to the bottom as the platforms all located in Ireland). The newer regs (DMA, DSA) are getting enforcement from the European Commission.
How much is tech bro opposition to the EU just because of its regulatory power over tech companies? It is obviously much more powerful than each country would be individually.
This is so perfect. No one have any doubts at this point about what Elon Musk really represents.

So it seems the claim of 30% increase in judicial review in 2025 was based on the number to 26 June & *a guess* at a number for July to Dec (which wasn’t fact checked & is wrong)

.. & that erroneous claim is the entire justification for govt plan to limit access to the courts #Speirgorm #Planning
