So I don't think it's *impossible* this could've been misguided. I also think it's possible someone who worked on the movie suggested it with malicious intent and they just didn't really think about the scene much before doing it.

I'm on the fence as to whether this was malicious or ignorant, and with a history with Australian media being an Australian, I do lean toward ignorant. Like I went to go see it with like eight other tgirls and while I was weary of lack of rep, none of us picked up on this.

When read through the "the person who made this movie is a TERF" lens, this is a scene where a trans woman tries to steal a cis woman's lesbianism as a trophy and then gets executed for doing so.

It also starts with said trans woman lulling the protagonist into a false sense of security.

No, it doesn't. It's been a while since I've read up on the full history behind the labrys, I know it's been used by TERFs for a while but I'm not sure if that goes back to when the symbol was initially adopted? I'm pretty sure it does use the labrys flag when she looks it up on wikipedia though.

Queen Leanne, Blades who used they/them pronouns in the film from memory, and I'm not sure if I had this right but with Kiki's introduction in the film I felt at the time it was pretty strongly implied she was trans as well, though the voice actor isn't a trans woman afaik.

From having watched the film it's not quite that simple? Trans folks are clearly depicted, everyone in this movie is a piece of shit except for like one character, and that's not the protagonist. The use of the labrys was a bit in poor taste but I think that was probably more based in naivete.

She wasn't white, actually. But yeah, the movie didn't have a great representation of trans women, though it did only have like ten characters overall and three of them were trans women, four of them were cis men.

I found a 19th century Cat Villain!

A huge chonk of a fluffy cat sitting on a table near an open fire. The cat is cream and grey and appears to be shaped like a barrel in a fur coat. They are scowling fiercely with their moustache and bewhiskered ears apparently flowing back into the cold wind. There's a definite vibe that this villainous cat twirls their moustache as they evict orphans into the aforementioned blizzard and think Scrooge was an easy-going lightweight. They are magnificent.
