MNL ➡️ NYC 📍— Cultural Worker, Writer, Artist 🌱 I like to wax lyrical about the potatoes, kitchens and the magic of the ordinary 🥘 A diary, a chalkboard, a sketchbook, a scrapbook, an avenue.

Part of my hesitation has to do with many of the platforms feeling hostile and to be perfectly honest, unsafe. There seem to be more strains of thought that are terribly dehumanizing and cruel. This saddens me. But I truly still believe in the potential good in humanity, and want to take part. 🌱

Hello World, yet again! I have fond memories of not just present but somewhat vocal on the internet, sharing thoughts and photos. Keeping a diary in public, essentially. It's a practice that I once loved when the internet felt like a bit of a different place. I'd like to try once more.

It’s had me on the lookout for more subversive and experimental formats on there. It’s also having me recall Vine. Somehow a good chunk of the content on vine came across as organic and sometimes even experimental. Perhaps it was the time limit.

By that I mean that more than before, self-expression on the internet tends to follow specific formats depending on the platform. I’m not a TikTok hater, but the more I study trends there, the more I see people limit their expression to these flatter formats and templates.

I wish I observed the shifts more closely over the years, but I remember the blogosphere fondly and enjoyed reading and discovering the different perspectives that were documented at the time. I feel that some of the big platforms most folks are on now have somehow led to a flattening of styles.

Been thinking a lot about how “citizen” participation in the internet has changed so much over the years. There are others who have articulated on this much more poignantly, but it’s heartbreaking that most platforms ended up getting steered towards pushing modes of consumption over connectivity.

I’m no longer accustomed to sharing my thoughts and releasing them into the ether like this, despite it being habit not so long ago. I’ve been finding that there’s much I’d like to keep close lately. But I still believe in the connective magic of the internet and so I will try once more 🍀
