Tragedy of the commons? No, tragedy of the wannabe-aristocracy
It’s not that Libertarians are hard working but rather too lazy and miserly to invest in their communities. It’s a moral rot that is killing America.
We’re gonna end up with a military coup, aren’t we
Like yes, right now we want Trump and the military at odds. But like even that, do I want a military that’s maybe less opposed to war crimes than my ideal level of opposition to war crimes (total) at odds enough with Trump to, you know, do something?

Eso.
A minor point lost in all this is that "narcoterrorism" was nominally coined to describe people like Pablo Escobar who were literally using their drug enterprises to commit bombings/mass murder but the DoD is just using it interchangeably with trafficking

Of course, that is indeed how it’s pronounced in Spanish.
LASER would be pronounced like the first syllable were a Scottish girl.

Hegseth is bad and the admiral that carried out his illegal order is also bad. I want them all punished for this, but if only the admiral, I hope it makes military types less inclined to follow such orders.

This is like how I felt when I learned that as of 2018 the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel is no longer the world’s longest bridge-tunnel complex.
also a classic instance of how propaganda works. the most embedded stuff is the stuff you are taught when you are a small child as 'geographical facts', in the same way that even anti-CCP PRC citizens can sometimes turn into rabid nationalists about South China Sea rocks

One of the things about trust is that it is efficient. It saves you having to invest a lot of time and effort in verification, and if placed in the right places, saves you a lot of pain.

"The diseases will do the education" is what we get when we don't trust.

Wow
This week, Netflix will drop a western with Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson as warring matriarchs of opposing clans. Not a one of the dozens of media writers I follow online has ever mentioned this show, and yet its three-week-old trailer has over 1M views. Make it make sense.

I'm not sure if she's doing it this year, but I always look forward to @janenx01.bsky.social resharing the advent calendar her mom made in the '70s!
Every year I look forward to sharing my Advent Calendar online. My mother made this by hand in 1976 or 1977. There no Velcro or glue - everything is sewn onto the panels in her tiny little stitches. Day One is a very content looking felt cow with a tiny French knot for her eye. #AdventCalendar

It’s evil all the way down.
The administration may well hope to use Bradley as a fall guy here, but it's important to remember that he would've knowingly gave an illegal order. He's no innocent party here.

That doesn't change anything about Hegseth trying to dodge his responsibility, but it's important to keep in mind.
If Admiral Bradley didn’t realize before that these cowards were setting him up to take the fall, he knows it now. Time to hire a good lawyer.

The Trump administration abhors compassion and sympathy. If you’ve suffered anything at all, their response is effectively, “too bad for you!”

Holiness and Horniness: Leonard Cohen in a nutshell.
From the Wikipedia entry “Journalist Larry Sloman, who knew Cohen well and interviewed him often, described the song as one part biblical, one part the woman that Cohen slept with last night, citing an unidentified critic saying that Cohen was most interested in "holiness and horniness".
