I'm not religious, but when I happened upon this church in the wide open spaces of northwestern South Dakota, I had to stop for pictures. November 2015.
#photography #sunset #church
An old wooden church stands on the high plains of South Dakota at sunset. A brightly lit cloud roughly follows the outline of the roof and steeple. A lone tree occupies the cemetery behind the church.

Late autumn scene in the Missouri Ozarks. November 2015.

A hardwood forest in the rolling hills of southern Missouri. Most of the trees have lost their leaves. A few trees in the foreground have a bit of foliage. On the far hills are two distinct groves with most of their golden leaves intact. A patch of shortleaf pine adds green color to the left side of the image.

A cat's view, as Narvik patrols the yard for trespassing squirrels.

A picture taken from behind a gray shorthair cat, showing his neck and head. Ears are prominently at attention. The cat is looking at a green lawn with scattered fallen leaves.

I just did a search for maps of the extent of the infestation. The northern third of Georgia is covered, but not the rest of the state. Here's hoping that they don't move south. I planted that tree knowing that the bugs would probably find it one day.

Western larch forests in fall colors at Sherman Pass, Washington, October 2007. I'm using a portion of this photo as my banner image. My travels have often taken me to this site, and occasionally the fall colors are just right.

Western larch (tamarack) trees display yellow fall colors on three layers of mountainsides. The sun shines on the foreground trees and the distant mountain, while the middle mountain, rising to the right of the image, is in shade. Green trees include species such as Douglas-fir, grand fir, subalpine fir, and lodgepole pine.

Narvik stands guard over the ash tree (thus far, the emerald ash borers haven't found the tree, and it's healthy).

I lost my special friend in a tragic way four years ago. Killed by a dog. I still miss her every day. Some people have a hard time understanding the devotion we have to our cats.

Here is another view from US Hwy 395 in eastern California. The viewpoints were crowded with people taking pics. Some had expensive cameras; all I had was a cheap digital model. But the colors were so spectacular that it was hard to go wrong. October 2011.

An autumn scene east of the Sierras in California. Shrubs, cottonwood trees, and aspen trees are aglow with shades of yellow and orange. A few green trees add contrast. In the distance is a double peak with a thin layer of snow.

I like the expression on Narvik's face. He was rubbing against my legs, and I was trying to get a picture that wasn't blurry. After several tries, he was getting tired of having that rectangular device being held in front of his face.

A gray shorthair tabby cat is having a stare-down with the camera. He's standing next to me; my blue jeans and shoes are visible. Ground is covered with fallen leaves.

View from US 395 in California, between Bridgeport and Mono Lake. Photo from October, 2011 when I caught the fall colors at their peak.

Looking across a semi-desert landscape towards mountains coated with a skiff of early-season snow. In between are aspen groves showing brilliant shades of yellow and orange.

Narvik looks at me as if to say, "Now what do you want?"

A gray shorthair tabby is lying on a footbridge, looking up towards the camera.

I have to be quick with the camera when taking still pictures. Otherwise I just capture a blur of a moving cat. The "delete" button is my friend.

For #WaterfallWednesday, Running Eagle Falls in Glacier National Park. When snow is melting and more water is in the creek, water also cascades over the cliffs above the outlet.

Navik doesn't always cooperate with my efforts to photograph him. This was on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River, two years ago. I wanted him to sit still on the stump. He wanted to get back into the car.

Another pic from the East Glacier area of Montana. October 2023.

View from a roadside north of East Glacier, Montana - road is visible at right edge of photo. Beyond the roadside is a mix of meadows and forests, with some trees in fall colors. The mountains of Glacier National Park dominate the horizon. This is a wide angle shot, accentuating the sky which has a steaky cirrus clouds and puffy cumulus.

Yesterday, Narvik posed for his October picture.

A gray shorthair tabby cat is stretched out on the second of three concrete steps leading to a door that is painted red. On the top step is a medium sized yellow pumpkin and a small orange pumpkin.

I've driven that highway a few times. There is a nice produce market at the foot of the bridge. Of course I have a picture of a cat there!
My previous kitty, Noble Fur, stands on a basalt boulder next to a produce market.

Two Medicine River, north of East Glacier, Montana. October 2023.

A clear mountain stream flows across the lower part of the image. A mixed forest of conifers and broadleaf trees grows on the far side. Fall colors, mosty yellow, are on display. Distant mountains are topped by scattered clouds.

Continuing with my theme of fall colors in Montana, here's Narvik exploring a roadside. Foreground is in the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, looking west towards Glacier National Park. October 2023.

A gray shorthair tabby cat walks through grass and wildflowers next to a road. Nearby trees display yellow fall colors. In the distance, mountains are topped by clouds.

In early October 2023, in and around Glacier National Park, I hit the fall colors just right. Over the next few days, I will share some of the images.

A view from the main road leading north at East Glacier. Part of the road is visible in the lower right corner, paralleled by a sidewalk and fence. Across a green field is a house surrounded by patches of forest. Trees in the middle are yellow with fall colors. In the distance the jagged peaks of the national park rise to greet the clouds.

From two years ago, Narvik at Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park.
#cats #catsofbluesky #adventurecats
A gray shorthair tabby, on a red leash and harness, stands among yellow fallen leaves near the shore of a lake. Around him is low vegetation in fall colors, plus a few tall trees. Mountains line the far side of the lake, with an overcast of low clouds above them.
foresterbob.bsky.social
Two years ago today, I was at Glacier National Park. Lake McDonald is near the west entrance, and all the tourists stop to take pics. On this cloudy October morning there was only one other car in the lot.
#photography #nationalparks #montana
Low clouds sit atop the mountains on the far shore of Lake McDonald. On the right, a point of land juts into the lake. Yellow aspens and cottonwoods hug the shoreline, and green conifers cover the higher ground.

Two years ago today, Narvik and I were at Glacier National Park, enjoying the tall peaks, dramatic skies, and fall colors. Video taken at Lake McDonald.
