I have fulfilled a lifelong ambition. I have finally had an article published on a Star Trek website!

Really enjoyed the new approach to combat in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, but it did make me reflect a lot on what I love about the mainline' games turn-based combat. Wrote about what it really means to put you in the shoes of a trainer. www.polygon.com/pokemon-lege...
Pokémon Legends: Z-A's combat is no replacement for turn-based battles
You still can't beat the strategic playcalling of a good Pokémon RPG

Legends Z-A's fashion is trendy and really good, but I realized as I tracked down all the clothing stores that, despite all the variety, it's basically just for one kind of person

Pokémon Legends: Z-A's fashion is excellent, but way too homogenized
Game Freak used fashion sense! It's almost effective!

Yeah I think they've wanted to maybe shake off the perception of being a kids' series and aim for being more universal in the last 5-7 years, but just haven't found a solid way to do that
I'm not really keen to let the writing off as just being a kids game either. Kids aren't dumb, Game Freak - don't write like they are!

My Suikoden Localization Let's Play has finally come to an end! ...Mostly. I do plan to put up a tl;dr later that summarizes the topics that were covered, looks at some reviews of the game, and gathers up my own personal thoughts.
Localization Let’s Play: Suikoden 1 – Part 24 - Elizabeth Bushouse
Before the big battle at Shasarazade, we get a scene featuring a number of members of the Liberation Army, starting with Humphrey and Mathiu.

Last week during Brasil Game Show, I had the chance to talk to Naoki Hamaguchi about the FF7 remake project and why it's important to bring it to other platforms like Switch 2.
Talking to him was a pleasure and I'm excited to share this story.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is easily one of the worst games I've ever played.

Terribly written, awfully designed, and worst of all just oh-so boring. It's frankly insulting to expect fans of the original to pay money for this.

As a lover of the original game, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 just made me sad
This sucks

Hear me out: Let RGG make the next Pokemon Legends.
The contrasts in Legends Z-A are wild. Fantastic dialogue in story scenes, then NPCs around the city still saying stuff like "Wow Pokemon sure are Pokemon!" (Not blaming localization btw).

Faster battles and catching, still have to open two menus to heal and deal with unskippable "you healed" text
Hahaha I thought about that (the two cutscenes at the start are really good!) but I've only *just* finished the tutorial. Didn't want to jump the gun
My initial impression of Pokemon Legends Z-A is that Game Freak learned cinematography and it's pretty effective

Terry Pratchett books will make you feel better through anything, for the duration of your life. Every reread brings a joke or pun or reference you didn't get before. Decades of joy, hilarity and genius.
Tell me your most life-affirming literary opinion.
I'm replaying South of Midnight ahead of A Thing and I think it's tied with Silent Hill f as my favorite of the year. Sure some of the action-platforming bits are wonky but it's some of the best (and certainly the most natural) storytelling of anything I've played this year

I interviewed the director and producer of Octopath Traveler 0, talking about how they basically built this game from scratch, how the villains have been thematically enriched, the ethos behind the town building, and more. www.inverse.com/gaming/octop...
'Octopath Traveler 0’ Devs Explain Why They Built The Latest RPG Remake ‘From Scratch’
The developers of Octopath Traveler 0 talk to Inverse about how the RPG quickly became so much more than a simple mobile game remake.
