OK, _another_ pinned post time :)

Folks, here's the thing. I am _happy_ to hear your opinions on AI. I have in fact, in part due to feedback I've received, stopped using AI art in work product I create because I agree that it cheapens any brand it's used in.

But I am _not_ going to stop using […]

@brianokken Heya! Really love what you guys do and I DO NOT WANT to be That Guy nitpicking everything you say.....

BUT... I'm pretty sure @kagihq doesn't derive its search results from Google.

They have this page on the topic which I found rather helpful […]

I'm sure it's just bercause I'm VERY not familar but the weird arrow function definition syntax that's a hold over from #javascript does not spark joy.

Given that I'm learning #typescript here I can foresee myself avoiding that thing however and whenever I can.

Words fail me as I try to express how disquieting I find this E-mail #openai sent me.

Nobody should be treating #ai #llm software like a therapist, or even a life coach for that matter.

Mega corporations aren't necessarily our enemies but they're most […]

Happy Friday Fedinauts! Was a bit slow to find my groove today, but Fatboi Slim still out there making mad DJ #electronica sets helped a lot! Props to him for "Not letting the old man in" :)

#bostonweekend 5x Oh, hi, its a new year. I'm Knizer. For the past few years, towards the end of every work week, I survey the local arts and culture scene listings. There's always a lot going on in #newengland, and I try to summarize the highlights and add hashtags for discovery. I do this on […]

Happy first Monday of 2026 Fedinauts! :partyparrot:

Today's #electronica mix is a bit of ancient history for any fellow fogeys in the room. It's a live set from 1997 by the Chemical Brothers!

You guys I have fallen down a #nerdy #gaming #lore rabbit hole:

There is SO much _Control_ lore out there, and some of it's pretty good. Definitely will not make sense unless you've played the game, an experience I can strenuously recommend.

My rescue dog had a rough day today.

This was the first real snow of the season here in the Boston area, and all the salt and snow and cold are always a bit of a shock for her.

We keep trying to figure out how to get shoes for her but after YEARS of trying […]

We're at the point culturally where we have to accept that, much like #uce / #spam, #aislop will remain widespread.

How might we have a scoring system ala #spamhaus implemented by a trusted third party/nonprofit to recognize sites that've succumbed to #enshittification via #LLM / #generativeAI […]

Any @Vivaldi fans out there care to share what they love about the browser?

I've been running it a while and I've begun to wonder whether or not I should be supporting #chromium instead.

I don't use the built in mail or newsreader thingies and doubt I will anytime soon.

The more I use @CachyOS the more impressed I am.

It's an #arch based distro so you need to be actively rolling with the changes, but if that's your desired lifestyle anyway? Hardly a penance.

Not for everyone, if you want stability, that's what @fedora or #debian are for!

I hate to say this because I loathe birdsite, but if anyone wants to chat about the uses of generative AI in programming, you can find me there as 'feoh' too.

Would love to be able to do that here, but it just gets too fraught. It's just not productive.

For instance, today I'm using Sentry's […]

Going through old backups on my #nas looking to purge garbage is a poignant reminder of how far we've come: I have literally close to 100 .tar.gz files worth of backed up dot files. And I can't bring myself to delete them! It's silly. Maybe one of these days I'll take a few minutes and comb […]

Pour one out for the @AsahiLinux install on my work issued Macbook Pro.

I can cope with a lot, but no audio is a […]
