an image advertising commissions for profile pictures/tabletop token art and shows example art of a pink-haired dwarf woman, a purple and glowing humanoid fish person, a Black vampire woman sneering and licking blood from her lips, and a muscular dark skinned barbarian woman looking and gesturing threateningly toward an offscreen viewer. The last piece is shown twice: once with a flat colour background and once with a round border as an example tabletop token. an image advertising commissions for full body character illustrations with 4 example images: a redhead woman walking contentedly down a street, carrying a houseplant, a Black witch with a pair of forearm crutches showing off her patchwork clothing against a grassy green background; a congalala passionately playing a saxophone among a lush mushroom-laden forest; a person with short dark hair and loose striped dress standing under a shop awning, holding an umbrella. an image advertising commissions for critter portraits and for papercut collage styled illustrations. the papercut sample works depict a pair of mice living in a hollowed pumpkin, a trunk of a birch tree with the silhouette of a hand cut out of it, and a sheela-na-gig but with a bee presenting a larval grub between its legs.

the critter examples depict a doodle page with a pink fluffy cat in different poses, a leaping stoat with bird feathers in its mouth, and an aardvark with a termite on its snout. an image advertising commissions for lowpoly 3D models. the examples shown depict a mermaid Lio Fotia from Promare, Leia from Harvest Moon, a pair of characters in fantasy armor (characters belong to possessedbox and portocor), and a pair of characters - one a skeleton in a hoodie and one a mouthless and horned character in formal menswear - belonging to cinnamonbreaker.

Bumper sticker that says "honk if you want me to pull over to give you my Maud Lewis rant"
fenfrond.neocities.org
anyway I found a house-shaped piece of cardboard while tidying my desk today, and I'm painting that to look (mostly) like Maud Lewis' house. It's healing me. I want to paint my own windows, too.

I really wish the price difference between cheap paint and good paint was not so steep. I do really like what I can do with cheap acrylics, but I'd never like. sell anything I make with them.

'First Blush', 2023, in acrylics on canvas.

Definitely been hankering to do more macro paintings 😏
A vertical acrylic painting of one, irregular leaf that has begun to die in autumn. The left side is mottled browns and oranges, while the right still shows green in the veins. The serrated edged of the leaf are slightly backlit against a dark background.

imo, if you want to grow as an artist, make your sketchbook your best friend. tell it your secrets and your doubts, share memories from your day with it, and try new things together.

your sketchbook will not judge you and is just happy it gets to spend time with you.

[ #art #sketchbook #abstract]
a scanned Sketchbook spread with an abstract painting on each side. the left painting has simple flat black, orange, blue, red, and yellow forms. the right side has the same colours but blended, smeared, and applied with differing strokes, and accented by pencil crayon lines. the backdrop is muted red with a colourful border decorated with star and leafy shapes. the artist's name, PJ Picnic, is written in the bottom ri a scanned sketchbook spread composed of scraps of coloured paper that are drawn on top of. the same figure, a person with long black hair, is drawn in different poses, some stretched out and relaxed, and some curled up and tense. one of the figures stands looking at a distorted humanoid figure that looks back at them. the page is also decorated with leaf shapes and curvy lines. the backdrop is pine green with a colourful border decorated with star and leafy shapes a scanned sketchbook spread where one side has simple cartoony drawings showing off an outfit, and the other side has an abstract red, yellow, and orange painting. the backdrop is mango yellow with a colourful border decorated with star and leafy shapes

a little something wintery

#ArtAdventCalendar #art
a digital line drawing in a simple style, depicting a person in a big coat and boots taking a step forward and making a silly face toward the viewer. they hold a pair of mittens attached by a long string over their shoulders, letting them dangle and sway with their movement. the art is coloured in flat blocks that stray from the lines, as if the colours filled in different shapes before, or are a printing registration error.

more words on perfectionism. "We always do the best that we can by the light we have to see by."
screenshot from an ebook. the text reads: "Perfectionism is not a quest for the best. It is a pursuit of the worst in ourselves, the part that tells us that nothing we do will ever be good enough— that we should try again.

No. We should not.

“A painting is never finished. It simply stops in interesting places,” said Paul Gardner. A book is never finished. But at a certain point you stop writing it and go on to the next thing. A film is never cut perfectly, but at a certain point you let go and call it done. That is a normal part of creativity—letting go. We always do the best that we can by the light we have to see by. "

some choices passages from The Artist's Way - evergreen reminders.
screenshot of a book passage. the text says "LISTENING

The ability to listen is a skill we are honing with both our morning pages and our artist dates. The pages train us to hear past our Censor. The artist dates help us to pick up the voice of inspiration. While both of these activities are apparently unconnected to the actual act of making art, they are critical to the creative process.

Art is not about thinking something up. It is about the opposite—getting something down. The directions are important here.
If we are trying to think something up, we are straining to reach for
something that’s just beyond our grasp, “up there, in the stratosphere, where art lives on high....”
When we get something down, there is no strain. We’re not doing; we’re getting. Someone or something else is doing the doing. Instead of reaching for inventions, we are engaged in listening.
When an actor is in the moment, he or she is engaged in listening for the next right thing creatively. When a painter is painting, he or she may begin with a plan, but that plan is soon surrendered to the painting’s own plan. This is often expressed as “The brush takes the next stroke.” In dance, in composition, in sculpture, the experience is the same: we are more the conduit than the creator of what we express. " a screenshot of an ebook passage. it reads: "PERFECTIONISM

Tillie Olsen correctly calls it the “knife of the perfectionist attitude in art.” You may call it something else. Getting it right, you may call it, or fixing it before I go any further. You may call it having standards. What you should be calling it is perfectionism.

Perfectionism has nothing to do with getting it right. It has nothing to do with fixing things. It has nothing to do with standards. Perfectionism is a refusal to let yourself move ahead. It is a loop—an obsessive, debilitating closed system that causes you to get stuck in the details of what you are writing or painting or making and to lose sight of the whole. Instead of creating freely and allowing errors to reveal themselves later as insights, we often get mired in getting the details right. We correct our originality into a
uniformity that lacks passion and spontaneity. “Do not fear mistakes,” Miles Davis told us. “There are none.”

[italicized] Cerebration is the enemy of originality in art.

MARTIN RITT [end italics]

The perfectionist fixes one line of a poem over and over—until no lines are right. The perfectionist redraws the chin line on a portrait until the paper tears. The perfectionist writes so many versions of scene one that she never gets to the rest of the play. The perfectionist writes, paints, creates with one eye on her audience. Instead of enjoying the process, the perfectionist is constantly
grading the results.

The perfectionist has married the logic side of the brain. The critic reigns supreme in the perfectionist’s creative household. A brilliant descriptive prose passage is critiqued with a white-glove approach: “Mmm. What about this comma? Is this how you spell ... ?”

For the perfectionist, there are no first drafts, rough sketches, warm-upexercises. Every draft is meant to be final, perfect, set in stone.

The words are surrounded by blooming flowers - resembling fuchsia and lupines and daisies with eyes in the center - leaves, and butterflies, as well as a happy snail, and are lit by a peaceful smiling sun. The background is of a green grassy hill kissed by the orange sunset sky. The artist's name and symbol, pansy picnic and a pansy bloom, are in the bottom left corner.
