Thats actually some really cool context. Thank you Amy. It reminds me of just how much 9/11 influenced alot of movies. Kind of reminds me of how the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies had various scenes of New Yorkers rallying together and being hopeful in the face of danger and standing up to said danger

The psychic alien squid just feels also very rooted in the cultural zeitgeist of the 80s since the 80s and even into the 90s there was a huge obsession with aliens in popular culture.

other and instead fight against a common foe despite that unity being based on a lie, i just feels works better than the psychic alien squid ending of the Watchmen graphic novel. The context of the film's ending gives greater context to the overall story in my opinion.

Persecuting LGBTQIA+ people. I have been meaning to revisit the film so I can really dive into it with a detailed review. As for Watchmen, the movie where it ends with Dr. Manhattan being framed and that is the catalyst for Nixon unifying the countries of the world away from nuclear war with each

like government censorship and propaganda in the news. Though id argue the film does a better job of explicitly focusing on those themes. I also can't recall if the book ever touches on it, but I also give credit to the movie for having themes of what I feel are the history of the U.K. government

And there are indeed parts of V for Vendetta where I would agree that the themes of those parts are timeless. Like when V takes over the TV broadcast station and when the story gets into V's origins amd how those camps were government sanctioned. There's also definitely some Orwellian themes

But the specifics of how the stories unfold in both Watchmen and V for Vendetta feel very much locked into the cultural zeitgeist of the 1980s. Also in V for Vendetta, there's a author's note in my hardback edition where Moore says he was using the story to respond to Margaret Thatcher's tenure

ordeal trying to get one Steven Spielberg movie. I can't tell if the universe was fucking with me or not lol. Its weird to have finally found the movie now. I have had quite the journey trying to buy this movie on 4k. First when @shnick1985.bsky.social visited me last year and I took him to a store I like, I took the case of the movie up to checkout and the person looking for the disc said he didn't have the disc. Then over the summer this year,

how both films recontextualize their stories to be a timeless work for modern audiences and aren't just stuck in the context of when they were written. Also, both films I feel do a better job at keeping their stories focused and on track.

What's an example of a movie adapting written material and the movie ends up being better than the source material? For me its V for Vendetta and Zack Snyder's Watchmen. V for Vendetta and Watchmen are literature classics, but the films have elements that I feel improve on the comics, such as
