Hello,
I've been feeling rather
sad/furious/scared/exhausted/broken/isolated
of late, and with little I want to share of my own work, I've been reposting other people's: art, photography, nature, books. It's good to see people out there making things 💙

#FromMyWalk today: snow melting on a gorse bush.
Rain showers coming round the hill, herb-cinnamon smell of the undergrowth after the thaw--red kite sailing quietly overhead.

Time to take a deep breath.

Just a few seconds of the waves reaching the shore.

The tide is on its way out.

Enjoy the #calm.

Stones old and new today.
The West Anstey Long Stone, Exmoor.
Half of a 2004 sculpture on the Two Moors Way. A huge piece of granite, half on the edge of Exmoor (shown here), the other on the edge of Dartmoor. Facing each other across mid Devon.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been selected for the inaugural Golden Egg Writing Residency at La Colemena de Montserrat in January 2026. Ten days to focus on my current writing project. And stare out the window at those magnificent mountains. Feeling very lucky. 😍

It is remarkable to think Ellen Thesleff painted this portrait of her sister Thyra Elisabeth in 1892. After leaving Finland the previous year to study in Paris, Ellen returned home and became one of the key figures who introduced Impressionism to the country.

They’re drawn from the imagination, trying to tap into a formidable spirit but the elders of my own childhood keep inflecting them.
The intention is for them to feel redoubtable yet something sadder, lonelier keeps inflecting them
