This is why I won't engage with any "red states deserve what they get" blue maga discourse. Look at those two maps. The modern south is gerrymandered and occupied against its citizenry's will and things will only get worse if the supreme court decides what we think they will.

Without Section 2, which has been interpreted to require the creation of majority-minority districts, Republicans could eliminate upward of a dozen Democratic-held districts across the South.

Republicans may not eliminate every Democratic-leaning district that they technically could (more on why later), but the party’s aggressive mid-cycle redistricting suggests they would eliminate enough to obtain a significant structural advantage. It’s not clear whether this would occur by next year’s midterm elections, with a court ruling likely next summer, but the new seats would eventually be enough to make Republicans favored to win the House even if they lost the popular vote by a wide margin.

NEW — I dug into the story of ICE abducting a 13-year-old boy in Massachusetts and moving him 500 miles across state lines without notifying his mother, local cop's complicity, and how the federal government's justification for such cruelty is already falling apart:

ICE took a 13-year-old they said had a gun. Local cops say he didn’t.

Now he's detained 500 miles away from his Massachusetts home.

They understand the world through the lens of complete control.

Because they make top-down decisions in a small group, they imagine there is an equivalent (i.e., “Antifa”) leading the opposition.

They can’t fathom it being just everyday people doing random shit.

Exactly same. I was on edge during the first admin, and then more relaxed during Biden (though not entirely with... everything) and now it's SOOOOOO much worse even though I have developed more coping mechanisms in the interim. I don't know how to manage this sustained level of stress for... ever???

DHS lied about the 13yo child in Everett having a gun. He did not.

When the mayor of Everett was asked how the child got into ICE custody, he non-answered that police "did not contact ICE."

But the child left the Everett police station in ICE custody. Who, exactly, handed him over to ICE?

I think what's bothering me about all these statements I'm seeing from politicians that are variations of "Israeli hostages and Palestinians are returning to their homes, yay" is that Israelis are returning to their homes and Palestinians are returning to uninhabitable post apocalyptic rubble.

I would simply not use a national party body to intervene in a primary race and instead build infrastructure for the eventual nominee, trusting the choice of primary voters, but then again I lack the political acumen of people who have steered the party into its lowest ever modern approval rating.
