You have to venture to her past and try to make the connections as to what happened yadi yada. ShF on the other hand let you play Hinako seeing herself as her 15 year old self rather than her actual age (20) and what you go through is less an exploration of her childhood or past and

In Rule of Rose, not only do you play as Jennifer in her actual age with her demeanor being very "childish" to convey the dichotomy between her actual age and her emotional manturity being stunned, but you also actually go through her childhood as a gaming experience
