For context,doing a presentation about JRPGs to a class I'm taking and one of the main sources I am using argues that JRPGs aree largely designed around thee concept of media mix, which is basically to createe appealing characters that canbe made into merchandise.
Ok but the real reason why Mario RPGs don't count as "real" JRPGs is that there's zero merchandise of the OCs.
