Weird things are happening in the Elephant Hotel. It's getting late, you're getting drunk, and moments in the lives of strangers are scattered around you like spilled puzzle pieces. Can you put it all...

putting "newsom" on the mutelist. i don't need to hear about this fascist collaborator's dogshit takes or about the next time he's hosting nick fuentes or stephen miller on his dumb fucking podcast. no thank you

i gotta put some new shit in my head, in order to get new shit outta my head.

i've been on the verge of tears the past few days, going to things i already done for comfort, not realizing i'd been stewing. not realizing i hadn't changed the water in my bowl.

gotta read a new book, watch a new movie

i think my prose has a pretty strong voice, and i can pull off some clever turns of phrase to hit emotional beats with intensity.
Artists, I think we're all too comfortable sharing our imposter syndrome.

I would love to see you step out of your comfort zone and confidently state what you think you're actually really good at.

No self deprecation, just what you think you're the strongest at

Is anyone brave eniough? 👀

this morning after going in for a tattoo consultation, i stopped by the bagel place my husband & i like, and decided to buy one of their handmade shirts. the owner's there, and he starts telling me how his daughter makes em, about her paintings, about working on his son's first big movie in the 90s.

Ink a bicycle in perspective. Don't hesitate, be confident. It will look MONSTROUS; you won't want to show to anyone.

And you will feel less afraid

romhacks and fangames are so cool... imho the best thing about them tho is that they help a lot of young developers cut their teeth with gamedev...

fun fact: my first complete visual novel was not "i suddenly became a magical girl"... it was an undertale fangame with alphys as the protagonist.
In an era where corporations are actively pushing for IP law to be bypassed entirely so they can regurgitate plagiarized material to sell back to the world, I'm increasingly of the opinion that making fangames, romhacks, etc the old-fashioned way is cool/punk/a minor act of resistance.

fantastic insights into how to open a game (or even, broadly, a story), with examples that are delightful to unfold and a love for the craft of writing and storytelling that is infectious and propulsive (ingold's specialty).
A short post on the opening lines of a game: how they work, and what they can do. (With examples. Possibly indulgent, but I think the topic is interesting.)

So? How should we begin?

for those of you who, like me, find processing the horrors becomes more manageable when you learn things - this was informative, even if the conclusion is one we already know
🧵In my expert opinion as a researcher of vehicle ramming attacks, what has been publicly described in the video evidence does not support the claim that Renee Nicole Good was attempting a deliberate ramming attack when she was shot in Minneapolis on January 7, 2026. 1/7

losing my mind at the "she should have followed directions" people

really? really? you're cool with "if you don't follow directions, they get to kill you"? that seems like a good state of affairs to you? that seems like how law enforcement ought to work: instant obeisance or death?

ok, no spoilers at all here (i've been burned before):

i've only season season 1 of the chainsaw man anime, and not read any of the manga.

can i watch the movie? like, is it functionally season 2 (or season 1.5 or whatever), or is there something i need to see first?

when i was 6, i tried to backflip into a pool.

only i hadn't quite worked out the mechanics of it in advance, so i started by facing the pool, jumped up, and then in mid air i jerked my head BACKWARDS as hard as i could.

plenty of stitches on the back of my head for that one.
What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain.

😅

spirited away, always.

i'd seen and loved princess mononoke before then, but i'll always remember the day a friend showed up with a smuggled bootleg subbed version of spirited away (before disney got the rights for the US release), and i was swallowed alive by that film, consumed utterly.
In honor of Hayao Miyazaki's birthday, what's your favorite Studio Ghibli film? Doesn't have to be the one you think is "the best," just the one that nestled in your heart. Mine is Howl's Moving Castle.
