Saw a Facebook post of an article about a teacher who was sacked for putting up over 100 flags and one of the comments was like “should be teaching pronouns 🙄” and it’s like yes? they are a part of English? So if they’re an English teacher yes??

I'm not interested in Halloween. It's promoted to sell cheap tat, it has sinister roots that aren't good to celebrate, it's become an excuse for antisocial behaviour, and now it's spreading from an evening to a month. My objection may have been (protestant) Christian to start with: now it's bigger.

Even "TR police stop at CT unlawful, court TOLD" would be better - at least it has no air of a judgement being handed down, and invites the question "BY WHOM?"

I think it's because it continues to set the agenda. "Owing" in the sense of "ought" - "I ought to be engaging on Twitter". The truth was, in the end it was set up simply to frustrate anyone who wouldn't do things the musky way - the rest of us weren't making a difference, and being slowly poisoned.

I feel it's fairly niche to have had Annie Hall as my favourite film for most of my life. At least Diane Keaton won an Oscar for the gorgeous portrayal that left me with a crush on her.

I can't think of ANY Nobel Prize that has been given to someone not motivated by the pursuit of their ideal, but instead by the pursuit of a prize. Pursuing a Nobel Peace Prize rather than simply pursuing peace is grotesque.

Recently, I've been struck by the fact that at some point, people were living in a world in which "The times they are a'changin", Mona Lisa and Captain America didn't exist. And, presumably, their absence wasn't considered remarkable.

Various articles talk about Trump's "bid" to win the Nobel Peace Prize. I can't think of ANY winner of a Nobel who has been fundamentally motivated by the prize itself. Particularly for the Peace Prize, it's grotesque to think about people "pursuing peace" not because it's right, but for adulation.
