One must put oneself in Ambassador Hoekstra’s shoes: no one in Canada cares who he is, and no one listens to what he says, because everyone understands he’s just a marionette. His puppeteer makes him dance and spin, and the audience smiles and claps for the puppeteer alone

The dystopian movie plot is now our actual life in the United States.
New: Videos show ICE/CBP agents are scanning peoples' faces on the street to verify citizenship. ICE has tool to instantly look up unprecedented number of databases with just a photo

β€œI’m an American citizen so leave me alone”

β€œAlright, we just got to verify that”

fwiw, in at least one case in LA, DOJ actually put the wrong guy's name on the indictment, so this is basically par for the course right now
The Department of Justice misspells Kat's name several times in several ways throughout this indictment.

She is being charged with protesting outside of an ICE detention center, and the indictment dropped just days after she released an ad campaign showing the horrors of ICE detention.

"Much about Utah’s plans remain unclear, including the details of involuntary treatment, what a proposal calls 'work-conditioned housing' and whether the residents will sleep in buildings or tents. But supporters call it a model." A model for homeless internment camps. For crying out loud.
Under Trump, the draconian future of homelessness policy is coming into focus: mass internment. Utah is building a 16-acre site to detain up to 1,300 homeless people inside locked "accountability centers." This is profoundly alarming.

There will be a tipping point, where the acceptance of violating the law spreads well beyond Trump. Lawful/peaceful societies are built around voluntary acceptance of laws and rules--with some, but limited, need for enforcement. We're headed for a cultural shift that will be hard to reign back in
By proceeding with the demolition of the White House East Wing before seeking approval from federal agencies for a new ballroom, President Donald Trump forced the issue. It's a strategy known as "stake-driving."
How Trump Demolished the White House East Wing
By putting the demolition of the East Wing before the necessary approvals for his ballroom, President Donald Trump borrowed a tactic known as β€œstake-driving” to force an outcome.

This is the thing that the President and Vice-President routinely joke about
Rest assured, the linked piece is in EN
This piece is aimed at international lawyers, but anyone who cares about the legal, political, and social situation in the US during the Trump Era would benefit from it. Camus on Sisyphus has always been a key text for me, and it seems especially apt now. verfassungsblog.de/internationa...

Once the precedent of not paying the troops according to the rules is created, bad things follow. $130 million is not a large portion of military salary, but sends the message to troops that Trump and his buddies are personally paying them.
