The tax system is like a ramshackle shed, where the owner keeps nailing bits of old plank onto it to try and block up the holes. But nobody has the courage to do any actual structural repairs in case the whole thing collapses.

I am very aware that you „can‘t just rejoin tomorrow“, but perhaps you could start talking about the relationship with Europe in a non-paranoid, non elephant in the room-way?

The Labour Position is weird. "we absolutely won‘t do something about that thing we think is really bad for the Country, and for which we blame the Tories."
Sounds like being invited late to a party you always wanted to attend, except now you are declining out of pique.

If it’s self damaging for the Conservatives to continue to profess their support for a Brexit no one likes, it’s incoherent - and self damaging - for Labour to both dislike Brexit but at the same time to (largely) support it in its current form.

Maybe he meant 'the bored of peace', which Bibi probably will be in a week or two.

Yes, if you ask yourself why nobody has built in a certain area for centuries, the answer is sometimes flooding, though of course that will get worse with climate change. Cambridgeshire & Lincolnshire, for example. Then of course Essex used to have malaria...

In the 1750s Scottish landlords evicted farmers & families from their lands so they could consolidate and get bigger rents, forcing many into destitution. Wondering if AI will do the same, on a bigger scale? Don't see employers being overly concerned what employees will do when their job is replaced

It's Schroedinger's starvation. If we don't look inside Palestine, the people can be both dead and alive at the same time. 😠

Listening to the Today programme, there's zero doubt that he will get next year's Nobel Peace Prize because 'everybody' says he has single-handedly created peace in the Middle East. 😠

Hitler, Reichstag April 26 1942. "I expect the German legal profession to understand that the nation is not here for them but they are here for the nation . . . . From now on, I shall intervene in these cases and remove from office those judges who evidently do not understand the demand of the hour.

Not only are they not willing to, I suspect they are very much enjoying the very fact that they are lawless thugs. Gang leaders running protection rackets don't go out themselves to beat up people who don't pay. They send their minions.
espritescalier.bsky.social
Yes, but you're only there to (literally) support the man, it would seem. And what does the dog do?

And did they deliberately shoot it so the picture behind Rylan looks like Boris Johnson in a fur hat?

About a month ago, the Trump administration got rid of the de minimis exemption, whereby packages valued under $800 could slide in without import duties. Now there's a backlog as the government can't process all of this paperwork, leading to UPS just destroying packages
Business Insider headline reads: UPS is telling customers that their packages coming to the US are marked for destruction.

I wish I knew. The USA is either headed for (already in?) a far-right dictatorship, or will shortly be engaged in a civil war. Either scenario bodes very ill for the rest of the world as well as those directly impacted. He's of low intellect but with a lot of animal cunning despite everything else.

The Nathan Gill scandal should be huge news so why has the British media been mainly silent about it? (I think we know 🤔)
Here's Fiona Bruce shutting down any mention & acting like the audience aren't interested.

When you have immigration, citizenship and refugee issues being managed by the same department responsible for national security threats and domestic counter espionage, all of the former issues get viewed through a NatSec lens. "Every problem is a nail when your main tool is a hammer" etc
espritescalier.bsky.social
Quite. Apart from the prescription and over-the-counter stuff that might actually help a bit, they're full to the rafters with homeopathic nothing pills, miracle skin creams, diet potions etc. But if it's that or see them go bust, keep selling the ground concrete, just not to me.

They have it 💯 on the money, don't they? Man bites dog gets more clicks. OK, so it leads to riots on the streets and maybe full-blown fascism, but who cares if it sells copy, eh?
