Because it is illegal
Leavitt: "The president tapped into tariff revenue to keep WIC money going out the door. He found a creative solution to keep the troops paid. And rather than congratulate him for doing that, this unprecedented action to get our troops paid, Dems want to sue him for it. They're saying it's illegal."

Newsom is right. Trump is clearly in dangerous cognitive and physical decline.
Newsom: This president appears unhinged… seems listless… he seems, dare I say, in decline—cognitively, and… physically. These are just the rantings of someone who needs an intervention, needs some help, needs to be stabilized.

I am disabled. I have MEDICARE. I live on a very very limited budget in Boston, which has the healthcare I need but also is expensive as fuck.

Last night I went on to do the yearly « reconfirm your healthcare part d provider for the year »

This was the cheapest and nothing has changed on my end.

Lol that the London No Kings event is called No Tyrants because…you know…

www.nokings.org#map
A box overlaid on a map showing southern England, with London prominently marked. The box features bold black text reading:

INDIVISIBLE
LONDON UK"

Below this heading, the event details are listed:

Date: Sat, Oct 18

Time: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM EDT

Location: US EMBASSY LONDON (UK)

The time and date information is accompanied by red calendar and map pin icons. At the bottom of the flyer is a large red button labeled “RSVP” in white text.
I just to need to cry today anyway. This is it.

Donald Trump thinks bailing out billionaires is an "essential service."

But making sure Americans' health insurance premiums don’t double? Not so much.
Senator Warren says: Because of the Republican shutdown, air traffic controllers and TSA agents aren’t getting their paychecks.

But one government function that President Trump didn’t want to shut down? Sending $20 billion in American taxpayer dollars to Argentina.

Why? The bailout for Argentina helps Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s billionaire hedge fund buddies.

Just going to keep pointing out that they're openly asserting that they think any criticism of the president is tantamount to "hating America" which is, itself, an insult to American values.
Barrasso on No Kings: "They have this big 'I Hate America' rally this Saturday in Washington where you have all these far-left activists groups coming to protest the president and the administration."

I haven't seen research that puts numbers on it, but I suspect that voting for a Public Utility Commissioner (in the 10 states where they're elected vs. governor-appointed) is among the most impactful invididual climate actions. PUCs are very influential and turnout in PUC elections is often <10%.
Today on Volts: hey listen up! The most important election of the year is happening in Georgia next month. Two seats on the (currently all-GOP) Public Service Commission are up & rising electricity prices are on everyone's mind. This is a bellwether for next year's governor & midterm elections!
Pay attention to the most important political race of 2025
With energy affordability set to dominate national politics, Peter Hubbard and Brionté McCorkle explain why a down-ballot Georgia race is ground zero for the fight.

NEW: in a hearing where a judge is asking the government why it’s defying her court order about deploying tear gas without warning in Chicago, the government argues ICE isn’t using body cams, and they can’t start using them because the government is shut down.
Skedzielewski also cites the shutdown and says "I don't believe that it will be possible, on a short timeline, to roll out a body cam program in the Chicago [area of responsibility] for ICE.

For CBP it "may be more workable."

In the SCOTUS oral argument about gutting the VRA because it might violate white people's right to be over-represented in Congress, there's a glaring irony in the fact that the lawyers arguing for racism are getting out-balanced time to speak without anybody acting like it's weird.
It's rare in a case of this high profile that the court gives time to one lawyer from one side, and THREE lawyers from the other side.

*Technically* both sides are supposed to have equal time, so like, the 3 lawyers arguing for racism are supposed to share time. But it doesn't work out that way.
