Wow! 2011! If the world can be saved, it'll likely be engineers who save it. Back in the late 1950s, my dad (mechanical) pointed to thick black smoke pouring from a smokestack, "Not necessary", he said.. Then explained 'scrubbers' to a 7yo. They weren't required pollution control hardware until 1977

This side of the pond, we've had politicians use the word 'gone'. I even heard a doctor in the ER use it recently -- he was maskless, of course, though he had a baggy blue surgical on his wrist. Covid has been purged from the language here -- taboo.

My mate is at an academic conference today, in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Says 350 are registered, just 1 in an N95 -- guess who. Several attendees are coughing , not even covering their mouths <smh>

FWIW, Finland has been progressive in many ways for many years. They even eliminated homelessness. But a recent election voted in a change in govt -- guess what? All progressive policies & programs got cancelled and homelessness is again on the rise. This shift to the political right is everywhere.
