Yeah, would say that the lower bound (not considering overtime) for the fair comparison would be 75k to 125.5k then
Getting into the overtime question probably also requires a discussion of like, traditional flexible vacation versus the inflexible bulk teachers get, and how to value that wrt an annual salary.
Probably just need to make sure we’re not doing apples to oranges. Unsure if the $118k figure includes like, de facto required bonuses.

Probably easiest to compare the $75k fig to whatever officers actually essentially always get.
Oh yeah, not trying to imply that teacher salaries are commensurate with officer salaries. Officer salaries are obviously considerably higher.

Ofc SPD doesn’t actually hire recent HS grads (20.5 age min) but if we’re considering that, SPS also prefers masters degrees.
Salaries were significantly higher last year, presumably because of inflation:

Interesting post there - response in the comments is fairly universally pro-MFTE. But not really confident that people with pro-MFTE views have really organized sufficiently on this.
President Trump may want to cut more trees in our National Forests, but the "One Big Beautiful Bill" guarantees those new revenues won't be seen by Washington's logging communities.

Shame that some of the other NC reductions have passed, but the Wedgwood and Bryant amendments were also just pitifully poor process. There was not even a veneer of a justification.

Very glad to see them fail today.
Rivera's amendment to shrink the Bryant neighborhood center is the first to fail, with Rinck, Strauss, and Juarez voting no and Nelson and Hollingsworth abstaining.

It is not too late to tell City Council we want more housing. Sign the Seattle YIMBY petition to the Council supporting what we think are the best amendments. The more signatures the greater impact it will have. And send to your friends. actionnetwork.org/petitions/4f...
Tell City Council To Pass A Bold Comprehensive Plan

Ah okay. The yes on 39 ones must’ve come after I stopped listening.
What’s the Bryant/Laurelhurst connect to 34? The South Wedgwood center?

That one could conceivably be connected to Bryant but probably not Laurelhurst?
It is explicitly in your best interest to not pay the fare. Generally, we shouldn't be building systems that encourage normal people to engage in anti-social behavior. Their best interest should be to follow the rules!
The way the system currently works is that you're punished for following the rules. The system *benefits* people who engage in anti-social behavior.

If you want free fares - make that case to voters. Don't create a system that de facto encourages breaking the law through nonexistent enforcement.
If we want to use fare gates to guarantee that enforcement is blind, that totally makes sense. It's the same reason why we should have more traffic cameras.

If you just don't want to enforce the fares, just get rid of the fare enforcement division. It's a waste of money.
Yup. It's not even that we have too little staff or such, but that we've explicitly chosen to have our staff not enforce the rules. In Germany, if you get caught having not paid, you get a fine.

Why even waste money on fare enforcement staff if those staff can't actually enforce anything?
If you agree with me, I encourage you to testify on Amendment 39 this Friday. Sign-ups for the 9:30am virtual hearing begin at 8:30am and are available here: www.seattle.gov/council/meet...

The in-person hearing will take place in council chambers at City Hall, with sign-ups opening at 2pm.

Anyone familiar with Bryant knows that the Ronald McDonald House serves families whose children are being treated at Children's Hospital, just down the road.

OPCD's proposal protects that service, and I think that was the right choice.
The Comprehensive Plan is a difficult agenda item for all parties involved. Unfortunately, Councilmember Rivera's Amendment for the Bryant NC, #39, misses the mark.

This amendment removes parcels with already-existing apartment buildings, and replaces those parcels with the Ronald McDonald House.
If I recall correctly, the primary reason being cited currently for implementing P7 now rather than doing an extension is to stimulate the construction industry (as the P7 proposal is more stimulatory).
I mean, on the margin, we should absolutely expect uptake to go down if rents are revised down. It would make the program less lucrative!
The subsidy of a property tax exemption is only so large. The reality is that there is a fundamental tradeoff between the program as a stimulus tool and an as a subsidy for renters. No way of avoiding that making the program better for individual renters = fewer available MFTE units.
A lot of it is analogous to Wikipedia - you should really read the primary sources before you cite any of the information you’re getting.
