"What happened didn't matter, what it felt like was what mattered." was something an ex told me in a post-mortem on our break-up. At the time I thought she was insane, now I think it is one of the wisest things anyone has said about how we think about the world.
These fuckers are the biggest bunch of losers. If my closest friends/allies posted some shit like this, I'd be like "Ew, David."
It is a scandal totally unprecedented in history that the Vice President has shared a video depicting the President as king. It’s an obscene violation of every founding American principle.

And nothing will come of it. It makes me physically sick.
Just silently admit you are better than everyone else, while acknowledging that everyone else feels the same way. Advocate on something ppl care about beyond pretending ppl are driven by the question "how can I be more like the person condescending to me."
"we can win by showing people we are better, more tolerant, more kind and more compassionate than others" great! moral condescension! people love that.
Ugh. My friend gave me an old anti-fed shirt as a lark with AG picture on it. I was debating my opinion on him. I don't think I've developed a strong enough opinion outside Volker and Powell.
What is really strange is that this seems to be more of a left thing than a right thing. There is a weird "we are all pigs, let's roll around in the mud" aspect to right politics that is either an awful coalition or a left-wing delusion.

You care about what the in-group thinks, you think the out-group are fools or idiots. As a a result you care about the in-groups dumbass opinions more than the out-groups totally idiotic opinions are.
I agree with whoever said a rather under-appreciated dynamic is the extent to which Professional Politics Opinion Havers flat out just find the left interpersonally irritating in a way they do not find the right so, and I think a lot of the talk of a vibe shift was wish-casting their irritants away.
From an AI tracking ppl's internet use habits, they know that we like, being angry about other ppl doing shit, looking for goods and services, or porn -- and apparently they are going to start feeding us 2 or all 3 at once in weird ways.
I got a third one so I recorded it this time.
I don't know if this is causal, but it looks like the move from "short-term, balloon mortgage" to "30-year mortgage" has reduced the amount of home ownership. Although ceasing to build things and longer lifespans may be larger causes.

I'm curious what Trump did in these negotiations that wouldn't have been done by any other President & their diplomatic corps.
Just in case the dramatically low Leni Riefenstahl-style angle was too subtle, they used a word from her most famous movie
Mark Ruffalo is doing a hell of a job playing @alexhorne.bsky.social on Task.
I don't understand what you are communicating, and you don't want to go into detail .. which is probably better for each of us. So, I guess we just .. disagree?
In what sense? You think stocks are undervalued (meaning we are deep in the 'crash')? Or do you mean that we are in the early stages?
The deck is stacked against Bari Weiss. Broadcast news is a public service that loses money for the network. Stories at CBS News will be fact checked like crazy, and every mistake shouted out. Oh, and she's unqualified in temperament or skill set to do the job.

I'm not much interested in defending Sean Duffy, but language evolves. If you want to get mad at people for "misusing" the phrase "beg the question" perhaps start with the person who translated the phrase into English so poorly that the common understanding of the phrase was essentially inevitable 🤷‍♂️
I also dislike Musk, but SpaceX has reduced the cost of entering low earth orbit by an order of magnitude. Yes, some of their test rockets blow up, but their risk tolerance is one reason why they have accomplished so much and NASA's caution helped hamstring the organization.
I am not a huge fan of John Oliver's show, but the Weiss story was good, and he makes the key point -- we need traditional reporting outlets, not more opinion inflected news coverage. The 24 hour news stations have got us entirely covered on that.

This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵
Ppl accept that policy comes with trade-offs. If the only outcome you will accept is one where everyone is better off with no downsides -- then you can't do anything. And, "some improvements at some costs" is obv better than our current "beatings will continue until morale improves."
The first season ruled. The next two have been .. watchable I guess.
One half of the Noble in Econ this year went to Mokyr's work on what drives economic growth. Yeah, Trump's America doesn't do that.

A prolific author is looking at between $300 and $1000 in total, and it would cost the companies about $10b total -- a meaningless amount of money to the companies. Do we really think that this would silence compaints?
Let's say there are 1 billion books still receiving copyright protection (a vast overestimation). Imagine that an author gets on avg $3 from each book sold. If there are 10 big LLM companies, and they paid for 1 copy of each book -- they author would get about $30/book.
