Every time I see a statement that starts with "Dear X Community" my brain immediately assumes the worst (closure, loss) thanks to how many of these messages have happened as a result of Covid.

It doesn't go away even when I've already read the message and know it's OK. An immediate trigger. Fun.

And if you can buy two books today, get this one, y’all have no idea how much I want there to be more in this series and that only happens when we buy the books.
Into the Drowning Deep by @seananmcguire.bsky.social is on sale for $2.99 digitally. It's one of my favorite books. It makes Mermaids horrifyingly fascinating!

finished BURY YOUR GAYS by @chucktingle.bsky.social last night. Loved it. An homage to classic horror but brought into the present wonderfully. I loved how Misha reclaimed his narrative. And I wish I had a friend like Tara!

As someone who used to work at Ask.com - this is true we were very silly people
if ask jeeves had become the dominant search engine instead of google, we would be living in a very different reality right now
rich dudes got freakier after butlers fell out of fashion, like say what you will about having domestic servants but clearly it was some sort of moderating force on old rich dudes having a fancy man follow you around saying shit like "oh dear sir, that wouldn't be very becoming"

Et, in Arcadia:

We shed as we pick up, like travellers who must carry everything in their arms, and what we let fall will be picked up by those behind. The procession is very long and life is very short. We die on the march. But there is nothing outside the march so nothing can be lost to it...

"..if you measured income inadequacy today the way Orshansky measured it in 1963, the threshold for a family of four wouldn’t be $31,200.

It would be somewhere between $130,000 and $150,000."

This is an insightful but deeply upsetting article about why everyone in the US feels poor, and why the current political situation emerges as a direct result.
