Ominous warnings here, as in innumerable observations. The ability to protect the country has been sabotaged.

Relatedly, Smith's report on the Mar-a-Lago documents investigation has yet to be released. Examination of it will be necessary when the time comes to reconstruct the justice system.

If these commentators dont want the next AG to be Merrick Garland they need to understand the depth and reasons for his failures and of those around him and of those that didn't recognize the failures.

Very interesting. I like Corey Booker but its not definitely not a "circular firing squad" to call out accommodation. The question of how to oppose (and why accommodate) must be addressed.

This is an incomplete explanation. Much of the material was not covered by a sealing order, which in any event in large part ended with almost a year left in Garland's tenure. Garland had discretion to handle as he saw fit, and while not lying about it, did not make releasing any files a priority.

Its not just that there are statutory restrictions placed by Congress, but that there are also constitutional restrictions. Even if Congress had intended, which it did not, to give Trump unreviewable authority, that would be prohibited by the 10th Amendment.

All due respect to Michael Cohen who paid his dues but he continues to facilely assume the actual guilt and ease of proving guilt against Comey, James and Trump's political enemies, even saying their conduct is equivalent to Trump's criminal conviction. Dangerous misinformation.

Alex Jones is litigating and appealing judgements against him in multiple courts throughout the United States, including the Supreme Court which just denied his request to review one of those appeals. His legal fees must be enormous, yet he steadfastly refuses to compensate his victims.

If he had any sense of civic responsibility he could fix this for a trivial portion of his incomprehensible wealth.

These are mostly indigenous communities in Alaska that have been slammed by the storm.

The local manager of a small airline fleet says he is the only one doing evacuations right now!

Defund FEMA and people are abandoned. Defund public media and no-one knows.

FYI, today is Indigenous Peoples Day.
Homes flooded in Kipnuk Flooding seen with water up to the crash barriers of local roads Sheds and debris lie scattered in the storm A small blue house has been blown onto its roof

9th Circuit Trump appointee declares Trump has authority to direct (military) resources and exercise judgement as he sees fit, free from judicial second guessing, without mentioning the 10th Amendment. In the next breadth this judge criticizes Portland's mayor for removing boards from windows.

Just reading the words “AG Garland” today makes me shake my head in sadness at how utterly the man failed to meet the moment. Fecklessness personified.
ericlisann.bsky.social
Indeed. While the fire was raging he was inert, as was legacy media regarding his inertness. And so here we are.

Rachel Maddow runs through the incriminating chain of events that implicates Egypt's president for life Sisi - who Trump thanked today for his support in 2016 - in then funneling Trump $10 million. Maddow called out AG Barr for closing that investigation. But AG Garland did not re-open it.

And of course some women hostages died in Hamas captivity due to the barbaric conditions of their detention. And the remains of many of those hostages who died in captivity have no been returned.

Still no definition, or attempted definition, of what this supposed terrorist group is other than people who oppose the president's policies. And of course no legal authority is cited.

And there will be one more such budget after this one, passed by the exact same Congress. And unless the effects of gerrymandering are counteracted, the midterms won't bring relief.

Past time for guidelines and a collective plan to prevent the pretextual imposition of martial law anywhere and time it suits the president's personal ambitions.
mrsbettybowers.bsky.social
ICE has been deployed to *provoke* civilians, not to protect them. They want to throw tear gas canisters and get people on the streets riled up, all to create footage for Fox News and Newsmax, et al., that will be used as a pretext for imposing martial law to lower voting rates in Democratic cities.

The only violence I’ve been seeing in Portland is from the so-called Feds!!!

Keep sharing these videos; it’s evidence.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

The book on him is that superficial flattery allows easy manipulation of him. And that actual execution of any seeming agreement is irrelevant, so unlikely to happen. Just meet his meaningless declarations with insincere agreement and Trump won't want to reveal the true lack of substance.

It is likely that the one and only exception that these Justices will allow is for the Federal Reserve, for reasons the Justices seem to keep to themselves. How the Fed's congressional authorization is different than that of similarly-created congressional agencies has not been coherently explained.

Even the originalist scholar that the Supreme Court's most extreme Trump-power supporters cite as their support writes that these Justices have gone overboard in granting Trump unfettered power to fire officials at will without regard for congressional statute.

As Justice Jackson wrote, there is only one fixed rule for this Supreme Court: Trump always wins.

Gaslighting. The shadow docket decisions can take years before they show up on the merits docket, in ever. And when they do they almost always end up the same way. The teflexive result-oriented initial bias becomes the new legal standard.

Would be a great contribution from Maine to the US if Graham Platner defeats Susan Collins.

We have armed secret police kidnapping people off the street based on the color of their skin.

When we win: we will haul them before a Senate committee. The masks will come off. There will be consequences.
