Even though seeing a CDC command center tent makes me think of makeshift morgues in NYC, complaining about it is just like Joyce Carol Oates complaining about Halloween decor.

There’s also a bit of bitter national pride for the Hollywood cultural hegemony. Can’t tell a horror story with the USA.

There’s a zombie themed foot race in Sweden. They use props that look like the US Army and the CDC. It’s a fun event, but as an American with a twinge of trauma from start of the COVID pandemic and anxiety about how armed agents of the states are being deployed in urban areas, I have mixed feelings.

I lived in South Carolina for a couple of decades and in California for more than that. Neither of those homes really had the picture book seasons.

So every autumn I’m in Sweden keeps hitting so hard. I love these colors and the very basic thematics of “passing time”.
