In his 2nd term, Trump has surrounded himself with individuals like Witkoff, Musk, Vance, and Gabbard who share his positive view of Russia, his negative view of Ukraine, and/or his hostility to Europe. This seems unlikely to be an accident.

Unfortunately, all of this seems increasingly plausible.
Steve Witkoff helped Russia derail Ukraine’s access to Tomahawk missiles. He tipped off the Kremlin about Zelensky’s U.S. visit, giving Moscow time to arrange a call that convinced Trump to block the deal. Witkoff actively works against Ukraine’s defense, in coordination with Putin’s regime.

Agreed. The point is not to try to divert him from his course—he does not want to and will not do so—but to ensure that he no longer has the fuel to continue.
The so-called peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia will fail. It is inevitable. Putin‘s objective - the destruction of Ukraine (and the USA) - will never stop for as long he draws breath. He crossed the point of no return a long time ago.

Trump says a “fine-tuned” (lol) peace plan has “only a few remaining points of disagreement,” but then cautions that any Putin–Zelensky summit is hardly imminent. Moscow has stayed mostly silent throughout this whole process, which makes real progress hard to imagine.
