Mirroring the '7 Herbs of Spring' (七草の節句), consumed for good health and luck in January, come the '7 Flowers of Autumn', known as 'Aki-no-Nanakusa' (秋の七草/秋の七種).

These plants are mostly a feast for the eyes and not the belly.

Sweets inspired by Japanese bellflowers.

A selection of dried sweets for teatime... red dragonflies and bush clover symbolise the coming of autumn. The last is in the shape of a 'Genji Window' (itself inspired by Murasaki Shikibu's visit to Ishiyama-dera).

An unusual sweet that symbolises the blustery weather that typically arrives with autumn. A grass is depicted almost flat, as if it has been pushed down by the wind.

Another sweet inspired by Japanese bellflowers. The flower is branded onto the delicately purple gyuhi (a softer version of mochi) which surrounds a white bean paste interior.
