But there was a primary librarian who lost her job. Others now self censoring out of fear for their jobs and schools who fear the bad PR. It made me realise how complacent we are here. I also think the political strategy behind this will go beyond LGBTQ+ books. Don’t let America shape Britain.

Wannabe / new children’s authors - this is worth a read:
“I have a day job, so although I spend four days a week writing, the two days I spend doing my other job pays better because, like most of the kids’ book industry, I get the kind of advances that disappear in the Council Tax bill.”

Not all children's authors love school visits – and we shouldn't have to pretend otherwise, says anonymous author.

UK WRITERS: You need to fill in this consulation. Govt is very clearly looking to an opt-out model of rights licensing that puts all the burden on creators instead of profiteers. It's long and boring but this is important.

When the graphics started degrading, it was my job to give the press conference. "It may look like the world is becoming pixelated, but it's actually a contagious eye disorder. We are working on a cure."

People almost believed it, until the colors faded to #monochrome.

Thinking about that new ranking system for editors and honestly my heart goes out to editors at the moment - they're under so much pressure, without enough support (in terms of numbers of editors, in terms of staffing in other teams) and adding a system of direct comparisons into that feels HARSH.

Serendipity that I listed to this after my last post. As usual PRP and guest - in this case the wonderful Suyi Davies Okungbowa summarise what I’m feeling (about SM). Got a new plan for next year now (less SM, more writing basically!)
Authors are expected to juggle many different demands on their time and energy--from social media and self-promotion, to side projects and live events. How do we decide what is or isn't worth our efforts, and where do we set boundaries to prevent burnout and overwhelm?
