even institutional repos are gonna have to address this (at least ones with self deposit)
I saw it in the middle of the night! i think we’re also going to see major consolidation of publication outlets (or just closure of journals)
As a side note: I am not sure our journals are ready for the complete mess AI is creating. This isn’t a dig at editors or publishers, it’s the reality of practices built decades ago in a print-only world. Of course there are exceptions, but boy, this is THE SERIAL CRISIS.
“authors should state when they did not synthesize the totality of the evidence (e.g., engaged in cherry-picking) or if they did not evaluate or contextualize the included literature, etc.” Love peer review of the peer review! 🔥
Wild. And shoutout to the 2008 delivery guys who‘d take a few puffs instead of a cash tip.
It’s Mesa’s last day before closing permanently. Go show them some ❤️

Mesa Pizza was priced out of Dinkytown. Another beloved small business driven out by price gouging. We need to protect our small businesses from corporate greed with commercial rent control!

arXiv will no longer accept review articles and position papers unless they have been accepted at a journal or a conference and complete successful peer review.

This is due to being overwhelmed by a hundreds of AI generated papers a month.

Yet another open submission process killed by LLMs.

Doug Armato, who has helmed the 100-year-old press for 27 years, is retiring at the end of December. His tenure saw the expansion of the press’s list and the development of strong Indigenous studies, trade, and regional publishing programs.

today, biking across the wash ave bridge on campus at 10:30am, a (more than likely) non-student, smoking a j, smiled and said “sup dog” to me. A perfect moment that reminds me why I love the University of Minnesota. but sure, admin, just keep trying to keep the public off campus.
OH WOW, okay...just straight up "Christian-based outpatient mental health system" Must have to new owners now? (new name, no mention of Christian anything, they sponsor Pride)

He's the ninth player in NBA history to reach these numbers in a single game, per @danwoikesports.bsky.social.

New preprint alert! 🚨

“Let Them Eat Large Language Models: Artificial Intelligence and Austerity in the Neoliberal University”
the owners need to (finally) acknowledge that Central Ave NE is NOT THE SAME as 13th Ave NE. [I enjoy both...but come on. Their pre-2010 13th Ave vibe does not fit the 2025 Central Ave vibe]
meanwhile, my uni's utility bills is going up $12 million dollars...but thank god we have a Gemini contract!
Is the AI tool using blackboxification and failing to provide full documentation of process and content?
Is the AI tool currently free?
Is the AI tool created by individuals or companies that has ousted or excluded dissenting voices?
A checklist:
Is the push for the AI tool coming from the top down?
Is the push for the AI tool coming from billionaires and want-to-be billionaires?
Is the AI tool promising features that are "coming soon"?
Is the AI tool presented without a cost analysis (of labor and resources)?
Turns out, it was less that AI would come for our jobs...it was that AI would come for our ethics and values.
