Why are Procellariiform seabirds most diverse in the Southern Hemisphere?

Our study found that wind patterns and time since evolutionary origin best explain the extratropical peak in breeding species richness of these remarkable seabirds. 🐦💨

Doing lit review be like:

These habitat preferences are closely linked to the predominant agricultural activity of the study area, which is characterized by a high density of dairy farms for the production of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.

Stone curlews seeks out real cheese 😏

Glad to have been able to contribute to this initiative! Efforts like this are important for making our scientific community more inclusive and accessible to everyone, regardless of language background. The guidelines have been uploaded to Figshare, please feel free to use and share lnkd.in/geipqBxk

Seems like bluesky is now bustling! If anyone has starter packs for ornithology, population/evolutionary genetics, and conservation, please drop me an invite! Am still trying to figure out my way around here!

It is probably not a coincidence that after a paper was accepted in a MDPI journal that the email used is now spammed with predatory journal submission requests

"Galcial pace" best description for how slow things take effect or to be put in place. Best of all, it is somewhat relevant for use in my thesis 🤣

Interesting sight to see both Green and Eastern Rosellas feeding in the tree from my window's office.

The latter has never been seen on campus before!

The evolutionary relationships among birds and their close extinct relatives are my main field of study and interest, so I couldn't not draw an infographic about it at some point. I decided to do it while working on my PhD, which may have been a poor decision. www.deviantart.com/albertonykus...

Found this Australasian Gannet on Squeaky beach in late July, but regretfully did not check its ABBBS band.

Turns out its 33 years old since it was banded as a chick at Pope's Eye, Port Phillip.

With many thanks to Stephen Powell for getting the ABBBS and tracing the records.
